Trump claims the 2020 election was rigged.
“The Election Was Rigged”: Trump’s Bold Claim
“[T]he election was rigged,” said former President Donald Trump during his interview with Tucker Carlson posted Wednesday, five minutes before the start of the first Republican primary debate on Fox News. “And with Covid, they use Covid to cheat and a lot of different things,” Trump added.
Indeed, as Federalist Editor-in-Chief Mollie Hemingway explains in her bestselling book “Rigged: How the Media, Big Tech, and the Democrats Seized Our Elections,” leftist groups funded by Meta CEO Mark Zuckerberg meddled in local election offices in swing states in the name of “Covid” by “chang[ing] hundreds of election laws and processes in the months leading up to the 2020 election in order to flood elections with tens of millions of mail-in ballots.”
Notably, mail-in voting is proven to be more susceptible to voter fraud and errors compared to in-person voting, and it is known to favor Democrats over Republicans.
The 2020 election was also “rigged” by corporate media outlets and corrupt federal agencies that promoted the Russia-collusion hoax throughout Trump’s presidency, and then colluded again to bury unflattering reporting about the Biden family business. “These people are sick people,” Trump said of Russia hoaxers like former FBI Director James Comey and FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe Wednesday. “These are people that I think they hate our country.”
Without question, the Russia-collusion hoax undermined Trump’s entire presidency and sabotaged his chances of reelection in 2020. The media also aided in spreading Hillary Clinton’s delusional insistence that the 2016 election was stolen, even years after she lost.
According to IRS whistleblowers, before the 2020 election, bureaucrats at the Department of Justice (DOJ) and IRS stonewalled and slow-walked the tax agency’s investigation into Hunter Biden’s potential financial crimes. A thorough and timely investigation — and specifically, revelations about Joe Biden’s involvement in the family influence-peddling business that IRS agents were told not to ask questions about — might have upended Biden’s election chances.
Lastly, intelligence officials and Big Tech platforms, with the help of corporate media, spread the narrative that a laptop belonging to Hunter Biden that was full of incriminating evidence was “Russian disinformation,” using this false claim to justify censoring the story ahead of the 2020 election. The censorship effort was all the more atrocious considering the FBI had already verified the authenticity of the laptop, which contained evidence implicating Joe Biden as well as his son in shady international business dealings.
The integrity of the 2020 election is highly relevant to the 2024 election, given that Trump is facing numerous indictments related to questioning the 2020 results — and given that there’s no reason to expect the same stunts won’t be pulled again. Essentially, Trump is being prosecuted by the Biden “Justice” Department for First Amendment-protected speech. “I got indicted four times,” Trump told Carlson Wednesday. “It’s all bullsh-t. It’s horrible,” he said of his political opponent using the power of the state against him.
To Trump’s point, numerous high-profile Democrats, such as Hillary Clinton, Stacey Abrams, and Al Gore, have all questioned the integrity of elections they lost and were never punished. “Democrats don’t get indicted for things like that,” Trump told Tucker.
The rigging of the 2020 election also calls into question the wisdom of devoting so much attention to the primary at all. As The Federalist’s John Daniel Davidson wrote, “How can GOP candidates admit that 2020 was rigged against Trump voters, and then ask those voters to abandon Trump?”
This problem is highlighted in Trump’s decision to recuse himself from the Republican primary debate and instead participate in a one-on-one discussion with Carlson.
