Former President Donald Trump Returns to Twitter with Defiant Message
After more than two years of silence, former President Donald Trump, now rebranded as X, has made a comeback on Twitter. His latest post, shared at 9:39 p.m. ET, features a booking photo taken at the Fulton County Jail in Atlanta, Georgia. The photo was captured on Thursday after President Trump presented himself to authorities and underwent a 20-minute booking process. Shortly after, he was released.
The accompanying text on the social media post includes phrases like “MUG SHOT — AUGUST 24, 2023,” ”ELECTION INTERFERENCE,” “NEVER SURRENDER!” and “DONALDJTRUMP.COM.”

The post quickly gained traction, receiving 200,100 likes and 7.1 million views within just 24 minutes. President Trump currently boasts 86.5 million followers on the Twitter/X platform.
Online records from the Fulton County Sheriff’s Office reveal that President Trump faced 13 charges upon his booking.
As part of his release conditions, President Trump agreed not to intimidate any codefendants or witnesses in the case, including refraining from making posts on social media. He also pledged to only communicate about the case through his counsel.
This latest development follows Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis’ indictment of President Trump and 18 of his associates on various felony charges. These charges stem from allegations that President Trump and his legal team orchestrated a strategy to challenge the official results of the 2020 election by setting up alternate groups of electors in multiple states. Among the charges is a racketeering conspiracy.
The Fulton County case marks the fourth legal action against President Trump this year, making him the first former president in U.S. history to be indicted. He faced a deadline of 12 p.m. on August 25 to voluntarily turn himself in.
Speaking to reporters at the Atlanta International Airport, President Trump expressed his belief that the charges against him are unjust and politically motivated. He also mentioned the three other indictments he is facing, bringing the total number of charges to 78.
President Trump’s Twitter account was permanently suspended by the previous ownership and CEO Jack Dorsey on January 8, 2021. Twitter cited his posts as a violation of their Glorification of Violence Policy. Despite his return to Twitter, President Trump has been actively posting on his own social media platform, Truth Social.
Previous Permanent Suspension
Under previous ownership, Twitter permanently suspended President Trump’s account on January 8, 2021. The platform claimed that his posts violated their Glorification of Violence Policy. Specifically, they pointed to two of his recent posts as justification for their action.
The first post read, ”The 75,000,000 great American Patriots who voted for me, AMERICA FIRST, and MAKE AMERICA GREAT AGAIN, will have a GIANT VOICE long into the future. They will not be disrespected or treated unfairly in any way, shape or form!!!”
President Trump’s final Twitter post before his account was removed stated, “To all of those who have asked, I will not be going to the Inauguration on January 20th.”
