New report reveals widespread threat of CCP funding in public schools.

Chinese⁤ Communist Party Funding Found in American K-12 Schools

A new report from Parents Defending Education⁢ (PDE) reveals evidence of Chinese Communist Party⁣ (CCP) funding in several public school programs, highlighting pro-China influence and messaging. According to PDE, since 2009, CCP funding has contributed nearly $18 million to school programs across 34⁤ states and Washington D.C.

In⁢ the state of New York, the PDE’s findings included 12 public schools, ⁢prompting seven members of the House of Representatives to address a letter to Governor Kathy Hochul. Led by Rep. Brandon Williams (NY-22), the letter expressed concerns about CCP funding in specific programs within school systems⁢ and the New⁢ York Department of Education.

In⁤ response, ‍Rep. Williams introduced the “Stop Funding Our Adversaries Act of 2023” (H.R. 1800) in the 118th Congress. Williams stated that the legislation “strengthens protection on America’s⁣ shores and bans American taxpayer ‌dollars from funding any research with China’s Communist Party.”

Nicole Neily, President of PDE, ‍emphasized the importance of transparency and accountability in public schools, stating, “Transparency‌ and accountability in public schools is not a partisan issue, and we hope the governor uses ‌the powers at her disposal to investigate the extent of these programs ‌in New York ‌public schools.”

This issue goes beyond partisanship. The ‌Confucius Institute has established a presence in 143 active ⁣and inactive districts, as well as 20 military bases across the country. CCP-funded programs like College Board and Asia Society‌ have collaborated with the Confucius Institute to ‌customize Chinese culture and language immersion⁣ programs for U.S. school districts. These collaborations include fully funded teacher exchanges,⁣ Chinese⁤ language programs, and⁢ opportunities for American students to learn in China.

A report from the Education Resources Information Center at the Department of Education revealed that in exchange for CCP⁣ funding, the College Board has granted ⁣China‌ strategic ‍access to American K-12 education. The report also stated that⁢ the Confucius Institute has acted as a recruiter for‍ Chinese government programs and assisted the Chinese ⁢Communist Party in designing and controlling ‌American teacher training programs.

Hanban, the headquarters of the scrutinized Confucius Institute, released a report acknowledging that “Confucius Institutes have become⁣ a vital force for international cooperation under the ‘Belt and Road’ initiative.” This initiative, developed by the ‍CCP,‍ aims to expand China’s global influence. The U.S. has no ⁣official role in the program, and China’s use of Belt⁢ and Road poses threats to American interests abroad.

Republican representatives are demanding answers from Governor Hochul, but have yet to receive a response. The New York ⁤State Education Department did not provide a comment when contacted by The Federalist.
