Search-and-Rescue Operations Underway Following F/A-18 Fighter Jet Crash
Search-and-rescue operations are currently underway after an F/A-18 fighter jet crashed near Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, located near San Diego, California.
The crash occurred shortly before midnight local time on Thursday night, as confirmed by a statement released by the base on Friday morning. Although the jet was not affiliated with the 3rd Marine Aircraft Wing, it was operating out of the base.
Investigation in Progress
The incident is currently under investigation while search-and-rescue efforts continue.
“We are aware of an accident involving an F/A 18 Hornet in the vicinity of MCAS Miramar at 11:54 P.M. PST,” stated the official release. “The crash site is on government property east of the air station, and there are no indications of damage to property on the ground. Search and rescue actions are ongoing, and an investigation has begun.”
The Naval Air Systems Command has described this particular aircraft as “the workhorse of Marine Corps tactical aviation.”
