CNN and MSNBC flooded with mugshots of Trump’s co-defendants.
CNN and MSNBC’s Obsession with Trump’s Alleged Collaborators
Both CNN and MSNBC have taken their network coverage to a whole new level by bombarding viewers with the mugshots of former President Donald Trump‘s alleged collaborators. This relentless display has raised eyebrows and sparked controversy.
According to an analysis conducted by the Media Research Center (MRC), these outlets showcased the mugshots a staggering 188 times, covering a total of 83 minutes of airtime within a 24-hour span starting from 6 p.m. on Wednesday.
MSNBC Takes the Lead
Out of the two networks, MSNBC took the lead in featuring the mugshots. They displayed the image of at least one alleged accomplice a whopping 122 times, accounting for nearly an hour of airtime. On the other hand, CNN featured the photo 66 times, amounting to just under 30 minutes of airtime throughout the day.
Interestingly, MSNBC’s “The Beat with Ari Melber” stood out as the show that showcased the mugshots more than any other. Melber’s program kept an image of at least one co-defendant up for over half of his show, excluding commercial breaks.
The mugshots in question are related to charges brought by Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis. On August 15, Willis charged Trump and 18 co-defendants in a sweeping racketeering case. The allegations suggest that this group worked together in a manner resembling an organized cabal, aiming to overturn the 2020 election.
Notable figures among the defendants named in the indictment include former White House chief of staff Mark Meadows, Trump attorney and former New York City Mayor Rudy Giuliani, former Trump attorney Jenna Ellis, and attorney John Eastman.

MRC released these metrics in response to journalists, like CNN’s Jake Tapper, who have denied accusations that the media is “reveling” in the court case. Tapper took to social media to defend his network, stating, “I know facts are a tough concept for the $787.5M defamation settlement channel, but in this piece CNN journalists & commentators, including conservatives, stating *facts* about Trump’s legal issues are falsely described as reveling in them. Wildly, characteristically dishonest.”
