Ex-mayor and judge assert Trump’s imprisonment is ‘definitely’ feasible.
Former President Donald Trump Could Face Imprisonment if He Violates Release Terms, Says Former Judge
According to a former judge, there is a possibility that former President Donald Trump could be imprisoned if he violates the terms of his release from jail. Keisha Lance Bottoms, the former mayor of Atlanta and a one-time attorney, shared this prediction during an interview on MSNBC’s Inside with Jen Psaki. Bottoms highlighted that all the defendants, including Trump, are currently out on bond with conditions set accordingly. She emphasized that if any of them violate these conditions, the district attorney‘s office will request that their bonds be revoked.
“We’ve seen that happen; as I mentioned, there is a big case going on right now, a big RICO trial with YSL group going on right now in Fulton County,” said Bottoms. “We’ve seen the district attorney asked for some of those bonds to be revoked, and they have made it very clear that they will not treat these defendants any differently. And so, I think that it would be at their own risk of freedom to test the limits of the district attorney in this case.”
Bottoms firmly stated that it is “absolutely” possible for Trump to go to jail if he violates the terms of his release. She pointed out that the judge in this case has not waived any conditions, such as taking mugshots of the defendants, indicating that they will not be treated differently throughout the process.
All of the defendants’ mugshots, including Trump’s, have been released online as of Friday morning. Trump, for instance, was released on Thursday after posting a $200,000 bond.
District Attorney Fani Willis: Fearless in the Face of Attacks
When asked about how District Attorney Fani Willis handles the attacks directed at her by Trump and his supporters, Bottoms described Willis as “fearless.” She recalled their time working together at a community-based law firm, where Willis consistently displayed fearlessness, even in challenging situations.
“I believe the more that there’s an attempt to intimidate her… you will see her really focus on getting a conviction and making sure that she sends a very big and stern message that this won’t be allowed in the state of Georgia,” said Bottoms.
Bottoms emphasized that Willis is not afraid and believes that any attempts to intimidate her will only strengthen her determination to secure a conviction and send a strong message that such behavior will not be tolerated in Georgia.
In the aftermath of Trump’s release on bond, he has been capitalizing on his mugshot by selling merchandise featuring the photo. Reports indicate that he has raised over $7 million since Thursday evening, with $4.18 million raised on Friday alone for his 2024 presidential election campaign.
Jen Psaki, a former White House press secretary for President Joe Biden and host of her own show on MSNBC, has commented that Trump is wearing his mugshot “like a badge of honor.”
