McCarthy: Biden impeachment inquiry is a ‘natural progression’.
House Speaker McCarthy: Impeachment Inquiry into President Biden a “Natural Step Forward”
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-Calif.) stated that initiating an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden would be a “natural step forward.” McCarthy made this comment during an appearance on Fox News’ “Sunday Morning Futures.”
This statement comes after McCarthy’s earlier remarks on Monday, where he expressed that the impeachment action against the president could begin soon. This follows unresolved questions from the House Oversight and Accountability Committee’s investigations into the Biden family’s business dealings.
In his interview with Fox News Channel’s “Sunday Morning Futures,” McCarthy emphasized that an impeachment inquiry would provide Congress with “the apex of legal power to get all the information they need.” This would allow them to investigate concerns over whether President Biden misused his office to assist family businesses.

“If you look at all the information we have been able to gather so far, it is a natural step forward that you would have to go to an impeachment inquiry,” McCarthy told host Maria Bartiromo. He expects action from the Republican-majority House when members return to Washington in mid-September.
McCarthy previously stated that the inquiry was necessary to overcome stonewalling by congressional investigators. They are seeking transparency regarding the Biden family’s business records. Testimony from former Hunter Biden associate Devon Archer revealed that President Biden met with his son’s business partners while he was vice president. Concerns were also raised by whistleblowers at the IRS regarding Hunter Biden’s tax records.
The White House has not denied Archer’s claims, and President Biden has repeatedly denied any involvement or knowledge of his family’s business activities. The White House has not responded to requests for comment.
So far, the committee has subpoenaed six different banks and received thousands of bank records related to the business activities of Mr. Biden’s family members. These records revealed that over $20 million in payments from foreign sources were made to the president’s relatives and their business associates during Mr. Biden’s tenure as vice president.
Payments were made by Romanian, Chinese, and Russian nationals, among others, and were funneled through a network of at least 20 shell companies before reaching the Biden family members.
However, McCarthy believes there are still unanswered questions: “The American public deserves an answer: who was lying [about the allegations made so far], what information went on, who paid, and what foreign governments?”
“To get the answers to these questions, you would need an impeachment inquiry to empower Congress, Republicans, and Democrats to uncover the truth that the American people deserve,” he added.
Even if the president were to be impeached in the House, it is unlikely that he would be removed from office by the Senate, which has a Democrat majority.
With the start of the next budget year approaching on October 1, Congress will need to approve the next round of government spending to avoid a partial federal closure. McCarthy suggests passing a short-term funding measure, or continuing resolution (CR), to keep the government running while investigations into the Biden family’s finances and the president’s potential involvement continue.
“I don’t believe we have enough time to pass all the appropriation bills by Sept. 30, so I would actually like to have a short-term CR only to make our arguments stronger,” McCarthy explained. He emphasized that a government shutdown would negatively impact the American public.
