Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard Put on the Spot

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Response
In contrast to Gillard’s nuanced response, current Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese provided a straightforward answer when asked the same question. He simply stated, “An adult female.” Albanese also emphasized the importance of respecting individuals as they come to terms with their identity.
Albanese’s direct response stands in contrast to other prominent individuals who have struggled to answer the same question. New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, for example, admitted to being caught off guard by the question during a press conference.
Hipkins initially mentioned biology, sex, and gender but then acknowledged that individuals have the right to define their own gender identity.
