Threats on the Rise: ‌Public Officials Face Increased Danger

Since‌ four criminal cases have been brought against ‍former President Donald Trump, there‌ have been a series of ⁢threats to‍ public officials. The‌ U.S.​ Marshals ‌Service reveals that threats ‍against ⁤federal judges have spiked‍ 400% in the past six years, reaching over 3,700 in 2022. ⁣Notably, threats⁤ to ⁢FBI agents⁤ and⁤ Justice Department ‌officials have escalated following the raid ‍at ⁣Mar-a-Lago, where hundreds of classified documents were⁢ discovered in Trump’s possession.

What’s Next for ⁢Trump Following⁣ Arrest in Georgia Rico Case?

Amidst the ongoing legal ⁢battles, there⁣ have been several recent threats targeting prosecutors and judges involved‌ in the ⁤two state cases and two federal cases where Trump has been indicted.⁣ While not all threats are directly linked to the ⁢indictments,​ here are a few notable incidents that have occurred since the first ​indictment in April.

Alvin Bragg

Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg charged Trump in March with falsifying business records related to ‍hush-money payments made during the 2016⁣ campaign. Prior to the indictment, ‍Trump⁣ took to social ⁤media, warning that the charges against⁢ him could bring​ “potential death and destruction.” Later that day, Bragg received a death threat accompanied by⁢ white powder (later determined to‍ be non-lethal), along with a chilling note: “ALVIN: I​ AM GOING TO KILL YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!” Trump, in response, stated to reporters, “I don’t like violence, and​ I’m not for violence.”

Craig Deleeuw Robertson of ​Utah ⁢also made threats​ against​ Bragg, ⁤labeling him a‌ political hack and outlining a plot⁤ to ambush⁢ him in a parking garage. According to charging documents,⁤ Robertson declared, “I’ll be waiting in the courthouse​ parking garage with my suppressed Smith & Wesson M&P 9mm to smoke a radical fool prosecutor that should never have⁤ been elected. I want to stand over Bragg and put a nice hole in his forehead with my ⁤9mm and watch him twitch ⁤as a drop‍ of blood oozes⁣ from the hole as his life ebbs away ‌to hell!”

Letitia James

New York Attorney General Letitia ⁣James, who is pursuing a civil suit against the former president, has reported‌ receiving death threats. In June, she revealed that she now ⁤has “more law ⁤enforcement around me these days” due to individuals ⁤who have “threatened‍ my life.”

Fani‍ Willis

In Fulton County, Georgia, District Attorney Fani Willis stated that she and the grand jurors who brought the⁤ indictment⁤ against Trump have⁢ also faced ​threats. Disturbingly, names ​and addresses of the grand jurors were reportedly circulating⁣ on social media. ⁣Additionally, members of the Fulton ‌County Sheriff’s Office reported receiving threats ahead of Trump’s‌ surrender.

Judge Tanya ​Chutkan

In a criminal⁣ complaint filed last week, federal investigators revealed that Abigail Jo ‌Shry of Alvin, Texas, left a threatening voicemail​ on ⁤August 5, targeting‌ U.S.⁣ District Judge Tanya Chutkan and Rep. Sheila Jackson Lee‍ (D-TX). Shry, who ⁢has a history of similar conduct and⁤ at least two prior convictions, has been arrested. Judge Chutkan is‌ presiding over Trump’s indictment on charges stemming from special counsel Jack ‌Smith’s investigation into‍ the former president’s⁢ efforts to overturn ⁢the 2020 ‍election and the Jan. 6 Capitol riot.
