The epoch times

Australia’s first female prime minister takes only 4 minutes to respond to the question: “What defines a woman?”

Former Prime Minister Julia Gillard Put on the⁣ Spot

During a talk at Government House in Adelaide, South Australia, former Prime Minister Julia Gillard faced a challenging question from ⁢women’s rights activist Biddy O’Loughlin. O’Loughlin asked⁣ Gillard to define what a ‌woman is and questioned her stance on trans women ⁢and the idea that some women can ⁣have a penis.

Gillard responded by acknowledging the complexity of the‌ issue and the ongoing ⁣debates surrounding inclusion and diversity. She shared her experiences⁢ in the UK, where the question of defining a woman‍ has become a “gotcha ‍parlour game.” Gillard emphasized the need to move away from such ⁣games and approach the topic with openness and respect.

She recognized the diverse⁢ stories and ⁣life experiences ⁢within the community, including those who identify as transgender.⁤ Gillard highlighted the importance of⁢ recognizing and respecting individuals who believe they are⁣ trapped in the wrong body and want to be recognized ‍as the gender they⁢ identify with.

As an atheist,⁣ Gillard emphasized the spirit of inclusion and ⁢the need to show love and respect to everyone in the community. She expressed her support for transsexual women and their right to be referred to using their preferred pronouns.

Prime Minister Anthony Albanese’s Response

In contrast to Gillard’s nuanced⁤ response, current Labor Prime Minister Anthony Albanese provided a straightforward answer ⁢when asked the same question. He simply stated, “An adult female.” Albanese also emphasized the importance of respecting individuals as they ‍come to terms ‍with their identity.

Albanese’s direct response stands in contrast to other ⁤prominent individuals who have struggled to answer the same question. New Zealand Prime Minister Chris Hipkins, for example, admitted to being caught off guard⁣ by the question during a press ‌conference.

Hipkins initially mentioned biology, sex, and gender but then acknowledged that individuals have the right to⁢ define their own gender identity.
