Weekend Media Recap: Catch Up on Sunday Shows Highlights

What You Missed on Sunday Morning News Shows

Every Sunday morning, legacy media outlets are taken over by ⁢elected officials, aspiring elected officials, administration insiders, and the usual‌ collection of talking heads⁣ — all of whom⁣ are there to discuss specific policies, push talking points, or simply ⁣promote their own campaigns.

For those who don’t spend their Sunday mornings glued to the television — and their Sunday afternoons attempting to unravel a full‌ week’s⁣ worth of network and⁢ cable news media spin — The ‍Daily Wire has compiled a short summary‌ of what you may have missed.

ABC News, “This Week”:

The Washington Post’s Charles Lane raised one caveat during ⁢Sunday’s broadcast of “This Week” on ABC, noting that indictment fatigue —‍ where it concerns⁣ former President Donald Trump — could be a real thing.

Lane posited that as the indictments ‌continued ⁢to roll in, each one carried less weight because the novelty had begun to wear off. Not only that, each indictment appeared to do more to⁤ rally his ⁤base than it did to drive them away from him.

Sarah Isgur commented on the situation as well, noting that the broad nature of the indictments ⁣could also create more confusion ⁢— ‌and result in fewer people coalescing‍ against the former president.

CBS News, “Face the Nation”:

Former White⁤ House ⁣Russia expert ⁢Fiona⁤ Hill sat down with CBS’ Margaret Brennan on ⁤“Face the Nation” to discuss the recently confirmed death⁢ of mercenary Wagner Group leader Yevgeny Prigozhin, who recently led a ⁣failed coup attempt⁢ against Moscow.

Prigozhin’s⁣ death ‍ in a plane ⁢crash last week‌ —⁣ which many suspect came about as ⁤the result of a direct order from Russian President Vladimir⁢ Putin — initially⁢ sparked rumors that ‍he had ⁤ faked his own demise.

“We’ve all been expecting ⁤something like this,” Hill said, giving‍ weight to the notion that Putin had,‍ in fact, been behind Prigozhin’s death — and⁣ that he had intended to send a very clear message.⁣ “The message to‌ the whole system is, ‘Don’t try anything’ and even, ‘Don’t criticize.’”

CNN, ‍“State of the Union”:

Governor J.B. Pritzker (D-IL) touted ‍his state’s access to abortion during an appearance ⁣on CNN’s “State of the Union,” claiming that women came to ⁤Illinois from‍ neighboring red states — where abortions were ‍harder to get — in order to gain access to those services.

NBC News,⁤ “Meet the Press”:

Former North Carolina Governor Pat McCrory, co-chair of‍ the No Labels ⁣party, pushed back on the idea that any third‌ party candidate ⁣was doomed‌ from the start,⁣ arguing that the same people making the claim now had also “predicted Trump could never ‍be president” ⁤during the 2016 presidential⁢ election.

Marks Moulitsas wasn’t buying it, however, claiming that No Labels “literally stands for nothing” and added, “You are creating this idea that‌ there’s a mythical unicorn ⁢creature that will agree with these people who want something” that was⁢ neither President Biden nor‍ former President Trump.

FOX, “Fox News Sunday”:

Founding chairman ⁣of No Labels Joe Lieberman — a Democrat-turned-independent — ⁣continued the discussion on the fight to make a third party viable with “Fox News Sunday” anchor ⁢Shannon Bream. And one of the main issues, ⁤as he pointed out, was ⁢ensuring that their potential candidate could make⁢ it onto the ballot in all ⁢50 states.

The No Labels ⁣party has floated the ⁢possibility of naming a potential ⁣candidate on‍ Super Tuesday,‍ assuming that the two major ‍parties fail ⁤to be on a path to nominating candidates other than Biden and Trump.

MSNBC, “Inside With ⁤Jen Psaki”:

Former White ⁤House Press Secretary Jen‌ Psaki attempted to clean up a ‌mess she made ‌earlier in the ⁣week ⁤with regard to abortion access. During the GOP debate on Wednesday, in an ⁤effort ⁤to rebut something that was said on the debate stage, Psaki claimed, “No one supports abortion ‍up until birth.”

Critics quickly⁢ corrected Psaki, noting that a number of Democratic Senators had voted to allow just that — and several states ‌already allow abortion ⁤through all 40 weeks of pregnancy for any reason.

Psaki ‌addressed the ‍topic again ‌during ⁣her Sunday morning ‌MSNBC show, “Inside with Jen Psaki,” and adjusted her claim to‌ say that no one was specifically “advocating” for more late-term ‍abortions.

Psaki went on later in ‌the show to‌ address the latest indictment against ⁢Trump in Fulton ‍County, Georgia, pressing Atlanta ‌Mayor Keisha Lance Bottoms on whether or not the⁣ former ⁢president⁣ might actually ‍spend some time behind bars.

“We don’t know what the judge will do …‌ but it’s feasible that Trump or others who‍ violate these terms could be thrown in jail?” Psaki asked.

“Absolutely,”⁤ Bottoms replied.
