Santa Ana Celebrates Second Annual Chicano Heritage Festival
Santa Ana recently held its second annual Chicano Heritage Festival on August 27, a vibrant celebration of its Hispanic-American community. The festival, held at El Salvador Park, attracted hundreds of attendees who enjoyed a day filled with food, music, games, and other festivities.
Local Hispanic artists showcased their crafts, while carnival games and live music performances entertained the crowd, despite the scorching mid-90s temperatures. The festival grounds were flooded with families and visitors of all ages, dressed in traditional garb such as vibrantly embroidered dresses, sombreros, and shawls.
The event was a tribute to the city’s designation of August as Hispanic Heritage Month, honoring the vibrant and populous Latin community in Santa Ana, including those from Mexico, Costa Rica, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, and more. City officials emphasized the contributions of the Hispanic community, including their music, artwork, food, and cultural heritage.

In addition to the cultural displays and performances, attendees indulged in a variety of delicious food options. Vendors grilled tacos with pico de gallo salsa, served meaty burritos, nachos con queso and hot sauce, and offered crispy churros topped with caramel, chocolate, and ice cream. The popular Mexican street food, elote, also drew long lines, as festival-goers eagerly waited for grilled corn on the cob smothered in butter, mayonnaise, cotija cheese, chili powder, and other flavorful toppings.
The festival also featured a car cruise, showcasing dozens of classic and vintage cars that paraded through the event. Car enthusiasts eagerly snapped photos of these beautiful vehicles.
