Officer Fatally Shoots Knife-Wielding Suspect in Northridge
A Los Angeles police officer fatally shot an allegedly knife-wielding suspect in Northridge, sparking an ongoing investigation.
The incident took place on August 27 at around 11:10 a.m. in the 18400 block of Malden Street, at Canby Avenue, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.
The suspect, identified as 24-year-old Angel Ledesma, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities recovered a knife.

According to police, Ledesma was allegedly loitering near the front door of a residence in the area when officers approached him and asked where he lived. In response, Ledesma ran towards the officers while brandishing a knife and pointing it at them.
The officers repeatedly ordered Ledesma to drop the knife, but he refused, leading at least one officer to open fire.
Ledesma was struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at the scene by Los Angeles Fire Department paramedics.
The recovered knife was described by police as a 2 3/4-inch blade in the open position.
No officers or bystanders were harmed during the incident.
