Officer Fatally Shoots Knife-Wielding Suspect in Northridge

A Los Angeles police ⁢officer fatally shot an allegedly knife-wielding ‌suspect in Northridge, sparking an ongoing investigation.

The ‌incident took place ‍on August 27 at around 11:10 a.m. in the 18400 block of Malden Street, at Canby Avenue, according to Officer Norma Eisenman of the Los Angeles Police Department’s Media Relations Division.

The suspect, identified as⁣ 24-year-old Angel Ledesma, was pronounced dead at the scene. Authorities recovered a knife.

According to police, Ledesma was allegedly loitering near the ​front door of a residence in​ the area when officers approached him and asked where he lived. In response, Ledesma ran ⁤towards the officers while brandishing a knife ⁣and pointing it at‌ them.

The officers repeatedly ordered Ledesma to drop the knife, but he refused, leading at least one officer​ to open fire.

Ledesma was struck by gunfire and was pronounced dead at ⁤the scene by Los Angeles ⁤Fire Department paramedics.

The recovered knife was ‍described by police as a ‌2 3/4-inch blade in the open position.

No officers or bystanders‌ were harmed ‌during the incident.
