Attorney Ray Smith Pleads Not Guilty in Georgia Election Interference Case
Attorney Ray Smith has made headlines as the first defendant in former President Donald Trump’s Georgia election interference case to enter a plea. Smith boldly pled not guilty to all charges brought against him. He is among the 19 co-defendants, including Trump himself, who have been indicted by Fulton County District Attorney Fani Willis.
Smith, a prominent lawyer at the esteemed firm Smith and Liss, played a significant role in advising alternate GOP electors. These electors convened at the Georgia Capitol building and signed documents asserting that Trump had emerged victorious in the state’s election.

The filing submitted by Smith’s legal team states, ”By and through undersigned counsel, Defendant [Ray Smith] hereby waives formal arraignment and enters a plea of NOT GUILTY to each and every charge of the Indictment.” This strategic move allows Smith and his counsel to be excused from appearing at the arraignment calendar on September 6, 2023.
Smith is confronted with a dozen charges, including conspiracy and false statement charges. As for the remaining 18 defendants, they are scheduled to be arraigned in Fulton County on September 6.
