Tragic Incident: University Student Fatally Shot in Columbia
In a heartbreaking turn of events, a University of South Carolina student lost his life in the early hours of Saturday. Nicholas Anthony Donofrio, a 20-year-old sophomore from Connecticut, was fatally shot as he mistakenly attempted to enter the wrong home on his off-campus street.
The Columbia Police Department responded to reports of a home burglary and shooting, only to find Mr. Donofrio’s lifeless body on a front porch around 2 a.m. He had suffered a gunshot wound to his upper body.
According to preliminary information, it appears that Mr. Donofrio lived on the same street where the incident occurred. However, he unknowingly tried to enter a different residence. The shooting took place in a Columbia neighborhood adjacent to the university campus.
