A Navy Veteran’s Harrowing Experience: Beaten and Robbed in His Philadelphia Neighborhood
A Navy veteran’s peaceful evening walk with his dog turned into a nightmare when he was brutally attacked and robbed in his own Philadelphia neighborhood. The incident, which occurred on Saturday, is currently under investigation by authorities.
The victim, 62-year-old Scott Harris, a former naval officer, was taking his dog for a stroll around 11:30 p.m. when he was assaulted near a park where a large party was taking place.
The attack left Harris with severe injuries, including a brain injury, broken teeth, and facial bruising. He was rushed to the emergency room and spent three days in the hospital, with no recollection of the incident.
Adding insult to injury, Harris’ wallet, containing his ID and credit cards, was also stolen during the assault.

Harris, in an interview with WTFX, shared his experiences serving overseas as a naval officer and the shocking details of the attack that left him with over 100 stitches.
“There was a large party going on across the street that in hindsight I probably should have avoided, and the next thing I remember, I’m in the emergency room because I just kind of blacked out after that,” Harris recounted.
Reflecting on his military service, he expressed disbelief that such a violent incident could occur in his own neighborhood. “I did a year in a war zone in Iraq, did two years in Ukraine, and would not have expected this to happen in my very own neighborhood,” he said.
Joseph Hurchick, who resides with Harris, praised the actions of three good Samaritans who helped bring Harris and his dog safely home after the horrifying crime. However, he is now calling for increased police presence in their neighborhood.
Hurchick claims that local authorities have ignored their concerns about large gatherings in the nearby park, and he fears that without proper policing, the situation could escalate further. “This is what happens when something’s not policed. It could have been worse,” Hurchick warned. “Is it going to take a murder for… this to stop?”
