Georgia Judge Rules Trump’s Trial Will Be Publicly Viewable
A judge in Georgia made a significant ruling on Thursday, stating that the trial of former President Donald Trump in Fulton County will be accessible to the public. This decision by Judge Scott McAfee of the Superior Court of Fulton County ensures transparency and allows the public to witness the proceedings.
“Use of electronics will not disrupt the administration of justice,” Judge McAfee emphasized. “All parties and spectators are allowed to use recording devices.”
Excitingly, the Fulton County Courts’ YouTube Channel will be streaming the trials of Trump and the other 18 co-defendants live. This move towards digital accessibility ensures that people from all over can stay informed and engaged with this high-profile case.
Trump Pleads Not Guilty and Waives Arraignment
Just recently, Trump pleaded not guilty to the 13 felony charges he faces regarding his alleged attempts to overturn the results of the 2020 presidential election. In a court filing, the 77-year-old former president also waived his right to appear at his arraignment next week.
“Understanding my rights, I do hereby freely and voluntarily waive my right to be present at my arraignment on the Indictment and my right to have it read to me in open court,” Trump stated in the filing. “As evidenced by my signature below, I do hereby waive formal arraignment and enter my plea of NOT GUILTY to the Indictment in this case.”
Furthermore, Trump has requested to have his case separated from any co-defendants who have demanded a speedy trial. This request is based on the belief that it would protect his federal and state constitutional rights to a fair trial and due process of law.
Charges and Co-Defendants
Trump, along with 18 other co-defendants, was charged in a 41-count indictment earlier this month. The charges against him include solicitation of violation of oath by a public officer, conspiracy to commit forgery in the first degree, conspiracy to commit false statements and writings, violation of the Georgia RICO Act, and more.
The list of co-defendants charged by Fulton County is extensive and includes notable figures such as Rudy Giuliani, Sidney Powell, Mark Meadows, and Jenna Ellis.
