Vivek Ramaswamy acknowledges he wasn’t born a Republican.
Vivek Ramaswamy: From Evolving Politics to Presidential Aspirations
Vivek Ramaswamy recently shared his journey of evolving politics that has led him to run for the 2024 Republican nomination for president. The youngest among thirteen Republican candidates, Ramaswamy appeared on Fox and Friends Saturday to address concerns about his conservative views. He was questioned about a recent article that highlighted his various political stances, even dating back to his time as an 18-year-old Harvard student. Ramaswamy reflected on the changes he has undergone since then, recalling the moment he asked then-candidate Al Sharpton, “Out of all the Democratic candidates out there, why should I vote for the one with the least political experience?”
A Journey of Experience and Conviction
“Yes, it’s true that I was asking Al Sharpton a question on MSNBC, and I didn’t start my life spouting Republican talking points,” Ramaswamy admitted. “My views have been shaped by my experiences.”
The year was 2003, and Senator John Kerry would eventually secure the nomination, only to lose to President George W. Bush. Ramaswamy cast his first vote during that election but didn’t vote again until 2020.
“As a CEO, I, like many others, felt pressured to make statements in support of Black Lives Matter after George Floyd’s death. However, I chose to stand apart from my fellow CEOs and advocate for businesses staying out of politics and focusing on profits,” Ramaswamy explained.
He continued, “This journey ultimately led me to embrace pro-American views that I hold dear today. My convictions run deeper than those of a typical politician who recites slogans from their super PAC. I am an independent patriot who speaks the truth, which is why I have been unwavering and resolute in my beliefs.”
During that time, Ramaswamy served as the CEO of Roivant Sciences, a pharmaceutical company that has seen six of its drugs approved by the Food and Drug Administration since its establishment in 2014.
Ramaswamy has since stepped down from his role at Roivant Sciences and co-founded a venture capital firm before announcing his bid for the 2024 presidential election.
