5 individuals have denied their guilt in relation to charges stemming from a brawl at the Alabama riverfront.

Alabama⁢ Riverfront Brawl: Pleas ⁤of‍ Not Guilty‌ Entered by ⁢Defendants

MONTGOMERY, Ala.—In a riveting incident that captured national attention, ​a brawl⁤ erupted⁤ on ⁤an Alabama riverfront, pitting‌ white boaters against black riverboat crew members.⁣ Now, five individuals charged ⁢in the​ altercation‍ have ⁤pleaded ‌not ⁢guilty ‌to assault ⁣and disorderly conduct charges.

Four white boaters, ⁢who⁤ were ​caught on camera hitting or shoving ‍a black ‌riverboat captain ⁤in Montgomery, entered pleas of not guilty to misdemeanor ​assault ⁢charges. Additionally, a⁤ black man, who ‌was filmed ⁤swinging a folding chair and‍ striking people in the ensuing chaos, pleaded not‌ guilty ​to‍ misdemeanor disorderly conduct charges.

According to Montgomery Municipal Court records, the not guilty pleas were entered last week.

Videos capturing the brawl quickly went viral on social media, sparking⁣ a wave of memes, jokes, parodies,⁣ reenactments, and ​even T-shirts.

Richard White, an attorney representing‍ one of⁣ the white boaters, expressed his desire for fair​ treatment ‌of his client amidst the widespread attention the case has garnered. In an interview ​with WSFA, White emphasized the importance of ensuring justice prevails.

Montgomery Police Chief Darryl Albert previously ⁤stated that the⁤ brawl erupted when⁣ the owner of a pontoon boat refused to vacate a⁢ docking spot reserved for the city-owned Harriott II riverboat. To resolve ⁤the situation,‌ the riverboat ‍co-captain approached the shore in a smaller vessel to ‍move the pontoon ​boat, allowing the Harriott II to dock and enable its approximately 200 passengers to disembark.
