Romania denies Ukraine’s claim of Russian drones exploding on its territory.

Ukrainian Officials Claim Russian Drones Attacked Romania, NATO Denies

Ukrainian officials made a startling announcement on Monday, stating that Russian drones had “fallen and detonated on the territory ⁣of Romania” during a recent attack. However, NATO, the North Atlantic⁢ Treaty Organization,‍ has categorically denied these claims, adding to the confusion⁤ surrounding the ongoing conflict.

According to Ukrainian foreign ministry⁤ spokesman Oleg Nikolenko, the country’s state border guard ‍service reported that two Russian drones struck Romania ‍during a “massive” assault on‌ Ukraine. ‌If ⁤proven true, this could potentially ‌lead to a⁤ dangerous escalation in the war. However, the Romanian defense ministry has firmly denied these reports, ⁣reiterating its support ‌for Ukraine.

“This is yet another confirmation that Russia’s missile terror poses a huge threat not only to Ukraine’s security, but also to the security ⁣of neighboring countries, including NATO member states,” ⁢Nikolenko emphasized.

The⁣ alleged Russian air strike targeted Ukrainian port infrastructure on the Danube River,⁢ near the border with Romania. While a photo showing flames rising across the river was shared by Nikolenko, its authenticity⁢ and Ukraine’s⁤ claims ‌could not be independently ⁣verified.

In response to the⁣ allegations, the Romanian defense ministry⁤ firmly stated, “At no time did Russia’s means of attack generate direct military threats on Romanian national territory or waters.” They also‌ condemned the attacks on Ukrainian sites and civilian infrastructure, emphasizing that such ⁤actions violate international ‌humanitarian rules.

One member of Ukraine’s ‌parliament, Oksana Savchuk, ‍has suggested that Romania’s⁣ denial of the alleged drone incident may be ‍an attempt by NATO to avoid a full-scale war with Russia.

The conflict between Russia and Ukraine has been ongoing since ⁢last February, with no end in sight. Ukrainian generals recently claimed to have breached Russia’s first line of defense near Zaporizhzhi, but Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, a NATO member, dismissed the notion of⁢ Ukraine winning the⁤ war as “impossible.”

Throughout the war, Ukraine has relied on ‌support from the West, including supplies and weapons. Despite a recent CNN poll showing that a majority of Americans ⁢oppose additional funding for Ukraine, the Biden administration has continued to provide aid to the country.

A senior State Department official‍ emphasized the importance of Ukraine’s victory in the⁢ war, stating,‍ “It’s very ⁣important that Ukraine win this war. And by‌ ‘win,’ I mean as President Biden said,⁢ Russians ⁢leave⁢ all of Ukraine.”
