US says North Korea’s Kim Jong Un may meet Russia’s Putin for arms talks.

Kim Jong Un, the top leader of communist North Korea, is actively pursuing a potential arms deal with the Kremlin. There are indications that he may even ⁤meet ‌with‌ President Vladimir Putin in Russia. This exciting development has been revealed through intelligence obtained by the United States.

The negotiations between North Korea and⁣ Russia are progressing, according to National Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson. She stated, “Arms negotiations between North Korea and Russia are actively advancing.” Russian Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu recently visited North Korea to discuss the possibility of purchasing artillery ammunition from Pyongyang.

“We have information that Kim Jong-Un ‌expects these discussions to ⁤continue, to⁣ include leader-level diplomatic engagement in Russia,” said Watson. The exact ‍timing of the meeting has not been specified, but according to unnamed U.S. and allied⁤ officials cited by The New York Times, the meeting ‌between ⁤Kim and‌ Putin could take place as early as next ⁤week.

The Kremlin has chosen‍ not to⁣ comment⁢ on the potential‌ meeting between ⁢the ⁢two leaders. Dmitry Peskov, the Kremlin⁢ spokesman, simply stated, “There’s nothing to say.”

Sergei Shoigu emphasized the importance of closely monitoring any in-person exchange between North Korea and Russia. South Korea’s foreign ministry spokesperson, Lim Soo-suk,‌ expressed⁤ concerns about the arms trade and cooperation between the two countries, stating that it violates Security Council resolutions.
The United States is urging North Korea to cease its arms negotiations with Russia and honor its public commitments to refrain from providing or ⁣selling‍ arms to Russia. This call comes after the White House revealed intelligence indicating that Moscow is seeking significant quantities and multiple types of munitions, as well as raw materials and electronic components ‍for⁢ military systems.

Secret Negotiations‍ for Weapons

John Kirby, a spokesperson for the National Security Council, informed reporters that North Korea had delivered⁣ infantry rockets and missiles to Russia. Since then, Russia has been actively seeking to acquire additional munitions from North Korea.

Following the visit of Russian Defense Minister Shoigu to Pyongyang, Kim and Putin exchanged letters pledging to enhance their bilateral cooperation, ‍according to Kirby. ⁤Washington’s intelligence suggests that discussions about ⁣possible arms deals continued during a recent visit of Russian officials to Pyongyang.

“We’re going to⁤ keep watching ⁢it closely through a variety of ‍means‍ of intelligence,” ⁤Kirby added.

The United States remains committed ⁣to identifying, exposing, and countering Russian attempts to acquire military ⁣equipment‍ from North Korea. This commitment‍ extends to any ⁤other state that supports Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Deepened Defense Cooperations

Both Moscow and Pyongyang have denied previous allegations made by the United States regarding North Korea’s provision of arms to Russia. However, the two countries are now promising to strengthen their defense cooperation.
Sergei Shoigu, who visited Pyongyang in July to witness weapons displays, including North Korea’s banned ballistic missiles, revealed ‍that the possibility of joint military exercises between Russia and North Korea is being discussed.

South Korea’s spy agency suggests that Shoigu may have⁣ proposed trilateral military drills involving China. However, Russia’s ambassador to ⁢North‌ Korea, Alexander Matsegora, stated that ⁢he is not aware of any plans for North Korea⁢ to participate in such drills. Nevertheless, he believes ‍it would be appropriate given ‌the U.S.-led exercises in the region.

The United States has recently imposed sanctions on three entities believed to‍ be involved in arms deals between North Korea and ⁢Russia.

There are suspicions that Chinese companies, including some state-owned ones, have been selling weapons and other military equipment to North Korea.
