MLB pitcher thrives on God’s ‘perfect will’ amidst life’s uncertainties
A Red-Hot Seattle Mariners Pitcher Relies on Faith in God During Playoff Hunt
Logan Gilbert, the star pitcher for the Seattle Mariners, is attributing his success to his unwavering faith in God amidst the uncertainty of his team’s playoff race.
Gilbert has been instrumental in the Mariners’ explosive second half of the season, boasting an impressive 2.70 ERA in his last seven starts. As a result, Seattle has surged into first place in the American League West, with a remarkable 21-6 record in August. Currently, the Mariners are tied with the Houston Astros atop the division, with the Texas Rangers just one game behind.
What sets Gilbert apart is his exceptional fastball, which can reach velocities in the upper 90s, and his slider with explosive movement.
With 12 wins this season, Gilbert ranks second in the AL, with only five losses to his name.
The 26-year-old pitcher from Florida attributes his team’s success to their cohesion and unity. After a recent victory against the Kansas City Royals, Gilbert expressed his excitement, stating, “Everybody’s playing the best brand of baseball that we can right now on every side — pitching, defense, hitting. It’s fun to be in this spot.”
In a video for Play4Him, Gilbert opened up about his faith, saying, “Everything I do, I’m trying to glorify God and use the talents that He’s given me on the baseball field and in life. I think I’m in a better spot when I recognize my dependence on God and His plan and His perfect will.”
On his Instagram account, Gilbert has also expressed his gratitude to God for his health and the accomplishments of his team. In a post at the end of last season, he wrote, “Very thankful for another healthy season! God has provided for me in so many ways this year. Also very thankful for this team and all we accomplished this year.”
Despite trade rumors earlier this season, Gilbert remained steadfast in his faith, trusting in God’s plan for his career. “You hear things,” he said, “It’s part of the business. I’m not too worried about it. I just kind of keep my head down and trust in God’s plan and what He’s got for me. That’s pretty much it.”
In his most recent start against the New York Mets, Gilbert recorded nine strikeouts, although the Mariners suffered a 2-1 defeat. However, he remains focused and is scheduled to take the mound on Wednesday in a road matchup against the Cincinnati Reds.
It is clear that Gilbert’s faith in God has been a driving force in his life and on the baseball field. As he continues to navigate the uncertainties of the game, he remains steadfast in following God’s perfect will.
