2 Men and 2 Minors Arrested for Shoplifting in LA
Police Arrest Four Juveniles for Stealing $5,000 Worth of Nike Clothing
On September 1, police apprehended two male and two female juvenile suspects for allegedly stealing $5,000 worth of merchandise, primarily Nike clothing, from a business in Los Angeles. The incident took place in the Westlake District, just a few miles west of downtown Los Angeles.
According to the Los Angeles Police Department, the four suspects entered a store on West 7th Street at around 10:20 a.m. They proceeded to take products from the shelves and place them in bags to steal. However, when they tried to leave with the stolen items, store security confronted them.
One of the young female suspects brandished a can of pepper spray and threatened to use it against the security personnel if they were stopped. The situation escalated quickly, prompting the store to call the police and report an “Assault with a Deadly Weapon.”
Swift Police Response and Arrest
The police swiftly responded to the call and gathered information from the store security about the suspects. They located the group, who had fled on foot with the stolen goods, about a mile away near 8th Street and Union Avenue.
Initially, all four suspects attempted to evade the officers and hid in a nearby laundry room. However, they were eventually apprehended without further incident.
Organized Retail Theft Task Force Assists in the Investigation
The city’s recently formed Organized Retail Theft Task Force, a collaborative effort among various Los Angeles police agencies, played a crucial role in the investigation. This task force aims to address the rising number of retail thefts in the city.
Police identified the two male adults as 19 and 21 years old, both with prior arrests for similar crimes. The two female suspects were identified as 16-year-olds. The male suspects, Demaree Anderson and George Thomas, were booked on robbery charges, with bail set at $50,000 each. The juvenile females were also arrested and booked for robbery.
