Fulton County prosecutors require four months for Donald Trump’s trial.

Fulton County‍ Prosecutors Estimate Four-Month Trial for Trump and 18 Others

Fulton County prosecutors have announced that ‍the highly anticipated 2020 elections interference ‍case against former President Donald ‌Trump and 18 co-defendants is expected to last approximately four months in court. Special prosecutor‌ Nathan⁣ Wade revealed this estimate during a recent⁣ hearing before Superior Court ⁤Judge ⁢Scott ⁤McAfee. Wade also mentioned that they plan to call around ‌150 witnesses to⁢ testify.

Lengthy Jury Selection Process

It’s important to note that the estimated timeline does not include the jury selection ⁣process. In ‌a separate case involving the ⁤Young Slime Life gang, jury selection has been ongoing for⁢ almost eight months without any jurors⁤ being selected. This highlights the potential challenges⁣ and time-consuming nature of the process.

Similar Timeline Regardless of Severance

Wade emphasized that even if defendants Kenneth ‍Chesebro or Sidney Powell are severed from the other defendants, the⁤ case would still require⁤ a similar amount of⁤ time and⁣ witnesses to present. Both Chesebro and ⁣Powell have requested a speedy trial, with District Attorney Fani Willis proposing an October 23 start date for their individual trials. However, Willis remains ‌firm in her stance of trying all 19 defendants together and previously suggested an early March trial⁣ start.

Judge McAfee expressed skepticism about the proposed schedule, ‍particularly regarding the handling of pretrial motions. He deemed the‌ timeline “unrealistic” and questioned the feasibility of completing the trial for all 19 defendants in just⁢ over 40 days.

Chesebro’s lawyer referenced the ongoing YSL case to cast doubt on the presented timeline, arguing that‌ if his client’s case is severed, the trial does not have to last four months.

This is a developing story and will be updated.
