Suspect Jailed in Fatal University Heights Hit-and-Run

Avoiding Justice: Man Arrested Three Months ⁤After⁤ Fatal Hit-and-Run

SAN DIEGO—In ⁢a shocking turn of events, a 37-year-old man who had been on​ the ⁤run for three months after a fatal hit-and-run incident in University Heights has finally been apprehended. Brandon Allen Janik, a ⁢resident⁢ of San Diego, ​was arrested on September 5th in Hillcrest on suspicion of multiple offenses, including ⁤murder.

The incident occurred on June 10th at around 8:45 ⁢p.m. at the⁢ intersection of ⁤Normal Street and El Cajon and Park boulevards. Joshua Gilliland, a 47-year-old⁤ pedestrian, was struck by a car and​ tragically lost his life. The vehicle, a 2022 BMW, was later identified as the one driven by ⁢Mr. Janik.

Despite ⁣his attempts to evade ⁤capture,​ detectives were able ⁣to gather enough evidence to link Mr. Janik‌ to ‌the crime. He now faces charges of murder, drunk driving, hit-and-run, gross vehicular manslaughter,​ and making‌ false ​insurance claims ⁢about a vehicle. ⁤Currently, ‌he is being held without bail at San‌ Diego ⁣Central Jail, awaiting his arraignment scheduled for September 7th.
