Prosecutors to pursue Hunter Biden’s indictment for felony gun offense.
President Joe Biden’s son may be facing serious legal trouble. U.S. prosecutors have filed a new document suggesting that Hunter Biden could be charged with a felony gun crime.
In a filing on September 6, special counsel David Weiss’s team stated their intention to seek an indictment from a grand jury before September 29, 2023.
“The Speedy Trial Act requires that the Government obtain the return of an indictment by a grand jury by Friday, September 29, 2023, at the earliest. The Government intends to seek the return of an indictment in this case before that date,” Mr. Weiss’s team told a federal court in Delaware.

According to prosecutors, Hunter Biden, 50, allegedly possessed a firearm in October 2018 while being addicted to an illegal drug, which is a violation of federal law.
Initially, a pretrial diversion agreement was proposed, but it has since fallen apart.
If convicted, Hunter Biden could face up to 10 years in prison.
Deal
Mr. Biden was charged with the felony count on June 20.
On the same day, it was announced that he had agreed to plead guilty to separate tax charges and enter a pretrial diversion agreement for the firearm charge.
However, during a hearing in the tax case, it was revealed that the diversion agreement included promises from prosecutors not to pursue additional charges. This led to Hunter Biden pleading not guilty to the tax charges.
Prosecutors later claimed that the diversion agreement was not in effect because it had not been signed by the U.S. probation officer for Delaware, Margaret Bray.
Mr. Weiss clarified in a previous filing that since the agreement never went into effect, none of its terms are binding on either party.
Despite this, Hunter Biden’s representatives maintain that he intends to abide by the terms of the diversion agreement.
Agreement
The agreement requires Hunter Biden to comply with certain conditions, including a prohibition on purchasing or possessing a gun for 24 months.
In a statement accompanying the agreement, Mr. Biden admitted to using crack and powder cocaine, starting in 2016 and becoming a habitual user the following year.
He used the drugs frequently and regularly until May 2019.
In October 2018, Hunter Biden admitted to purchasing a firearm while falsely claiming on a federal form that he was not a user of or addicted to illegal drugs.
He possessed the gun for a short period before discarding it in a trashcan outside a supermarket in Delaware.
President Biden has refrained from commenting on the investigation into his son, stating that it is up to the Justice Department.
Tax Charges Dropped
After pleading not guilty to intentionally not paying taxes, the parties attempted to negotiate a new deal but were unsuccessful.
Prosecutors then asked the judge to dismiss the charges, citing an inappropriate venue, and indicated their intention to file the charges elsewhere.
