ActBlue, a prominent Democratic organization, removes anti-Israel group with alleged terror connections from its platform.
ActBlue Severs Ties with Anti-Israel Group Accused of Terrorism Links
The top Democratic fundraising software, ActBlue, has made the decision to cut off its association with an anti-Israel group that has been accused of having ties to Palestinian terrorism and violating federal law. This exclusive information has been obtained by the Washington Examiner.
ActBlue’s charity platform, which has been facilitating payments since at least 2021, was previously used by the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel (PACBI), a founding member of the Boycott, Divestment, and Sanctions National Committee. This committee is affiliated with entities that have been designated as terrorist groups by the United States. However, ActBlue has now taken action and is no longer allowing PACBI to solicit contributions on its platform due to non-compliance with user guidelines.
Account Use Policy and Deactivation
Morgan Hill, an ActBlue spokeswoman, explained that they implemented an Account Use Policy earlier this year. During the process of establishing this policy, they reviewed PACBI’s account and determined that it was not in compliance. Hill clarified that the account’s continued activity was a clerical error, but it has now been deactivated.
This revelation, which has not been previously reported, comes after years of concerns raised by Republicans and the pro-Israel Zachor Legal Institute regarding ActBlue’s potential unlawful support of terrorism through its association with PACBI. The Jerusalem Center for Public Affairs, a foreign policy think tank, has identified PACBI as the “face” of the BDS National Committee, which includes U.S.-designated terror groups such as Hamas, Palestinian Islamic Jihad, and the Popular Front for the Liberation of Palestine.
Furthermore, PACBI is a project of the Alliance for Global Justice, an Arizona charity that has been linked to Palestinian terrorism and fundraising through PayPal. The Washington Examiner has obtained emails revealing that both Stripe and Salsa Labs dropped their association with the Alliance. PACBI’s connection to the Alliance is evident through a ”thank you” email sent to a donor, which listed the Alliance’s employee identification number that matches PACBI’s. Additionally, tax records show that the Cultures of Resistance Network Foundation granted $10,000 to the Alliance in 2020, specifically earmarked for PACBI.
ActBlue’s Policies and Congressional Investigation
ActBlue has specific policies in place for internationally operating entities, including the requirement of their own EIN number and being headquartered within the United States or its territories. ActBlue also does not work with organizations that contradict its policies on social equality, women’s rights, LGBTQIA2S+ rights, racial justice, diversity, freedom of speech, disability rights, and respect for scientific inquiry, discovery, and data.
Rep. Darrell Issa, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, has expressed the need for a comprehensive review into ActBlue’s facilitation of fundraising for an entity controlled by designated foreign terrorist organizations. He highlighted the fact that ActBlue’s sudden decision to cut ties with PACBI raises more questions than answers.
As of now, a search for PACBI in ActBlue’s database yields no results. However, PACBI is currently fundraising on behalf of the BDS movement on the coalition’s website. The BDS website still includes a Disclaimer from its sponsor, the Alliance, stating that online donations are not accepted at the moment, but paper checks are being processed.
The Alliance sponsors numerous global entities, including Samidoun, an Israeli-designated terror coalition. Marc Greendorfer, president of the Zachor Legal Institute, has stated that PACBI’s goal is to sanitize fundraising for prohibited terror organizations and ultimately aims for the ethnic cleansing of Jews from their homeland.
Greendorfer also suggests that ActBlue may have violated anti-money laundering laws, and attorney Alan Dye points out that PACBI’s activities could potentially go against IRS rules and public policy.
Rep. Mike Lawler, a member of the House Foreign Affairs Committee, expressed his shock but not surprise at the news, emphasizing the need for further investigation into the matter.
The Washington Examiner reached out to the Palestinian Campaign for the Academic and Cultural Boycott of Israel for comment, but they did not respond.
