Tennis Star Coco Gauff Shares Her Motivation for Success

Tennis sensation Coco Gauff ⁣recently opened⁤ up about what drives her to perform at her best during a press conference ⁣following her impressive victory in the U.S. Open women’s semifinals. The 19-year-old athlete ⁤defeated Jelena Ostapenko with a score of 0-6, 2-6, showcasing her incredible skills on the court.

During the press conference, a reporter inquired about the role of ⁢practice in Gauff’s exceptional performance. In response, she provided a profound insight into her mindset and ⁣motivation.

“I ‍think it’s just putting my life into perspective. ⁣I mean, at⁤ first,‌ I used to think negative ‌things like why is it so much pressure, why is this so hard, blah blah⁣ blah,” Gauff shared. “And I realized that ‌this isn’t, like in a way it’s pressure, ‍but it’s not — I mean, there’s people struggling to ‍feed their families. There’s people who don’t know when the next meal ‍is going to⁣ come from. There’s people who have to pay their bills. That’s real pressure. That’s real hardship. That’s real life.”

“I’m⁣ in a very privileged position. I’m getting paid to ‍do what I love, and that’s ⁢something that I don’t take for granted,” Gauff ⁣added, emphasizing her gratitude ⁣for the opportunities she has been given.

Ranked sixth in the Women’s Tennis‍ Association, Gauff explained that ‍she ‍gained this perspective by observing the‌ situation in New York,⁣ where the tournament takes place. Comparing it to her hometown of Atlanta, Georgia, she acknowledged the stark differences and⁣ expressed her⁣ appreciation for her current circumstances.

Breaking records has‌ become somewhat of a habit for Gauff. At just 15 years old, she became the youngest player to qualify for the ⁢main Wimbledon draw since its establishment in ⁤1968. Two⁤ years later, at ⁢17, she secured a spot in the Tokyo Olympics but unfortunately had to withdraw due to⁣ contracting COVID-19. At ⁤the time,‍ she held‌ the title of the youngest player ranked in the ⁢top 100 by the Women’s ⁢Tennis Association and achieved a career-high ranking ⁣of world No. 23 in singles tennis.

On⁤ Thursday, ⁣Gauff faced off against Karolina ⁣Muchova, continuing her remarkable journey in the world of tennis.
