Denzel Washington’s action flick triumphs amidst Hollywood’s challenges.
A New Sequel Starring Denzel Washington Dominates the Box Office
A new action-packed sequel has taken the box office by storm in its opening weekend. “The Equalizer 3,” the latest installment in a thrilling movie franchise, has claimed the top spot at the domestic box office, raking in an impressive $42.25 million over the Labor Day weekend, according to Deadline. Even without the holiday, the film still managed to bring in $34.6 million from Friday to Sunday.
This success is particularly noteworthy considering the challenges that Hollywood is currently facing. The industry has been grappling with ongoing strikes by screenwriters and actors, resulting in failed negotiations and months of picket lines. Additionally, studios have been struggling to attract audiences to theaters for many recent releases, with the exception of summer hits like “Barbie” and “Oppenheimer.”
Despite these setbacks, “The Equalizer 3″ has achieved the second-highest Labor Day weekend opening of all time, with its $42 million domestic debut. The only film to surpass this record is Marvel Studios’ 2021 superhero blockbuster, “Shang-Chi and the Legend of the Ten Rings,” which earned an impressive $94.6 million during the same period.
Internationally, “The Equalizer 3” brought in $26.1 million, resulting in a combined total of over $68 million by the end of the holiday weekend, as reported by USA Today. Notably, the film’s box office earnings almost matched its $70 million production budget during its opening weekend.
As of Thursday, the worldwide total for “Equalizer 3” stood at $74.3 million, according to the box office website The Numbers.
These numbers are even more impressive considering that the film’s star, Denzel Washington, was unable to promote it due to his participation in the striking Screen Actors Guild and American Federation of Television and Radio Artists. Nevertheless, Washington’s star power managed to draw audiences to theaters to experience his latest movie.
He’s #1 for a reason.

So @ThatChrisGore said to me that The Equalizer 3 was a western. I had no idea what he really meant. Then I saw the film and I know exactly what he means now.
Highly enjoyable film. The kind we are really missing in this day and age.

It’s really good, everything ties all together at the end. Equalizer trilogy might be my favorite Denzel flicks and that says a lot

While “The Equalizer 3” dominated the domestic box office over the weekend, “Barbie” secured the second spot with $10.6 million, followed by “Blue Beetle” in third place with $7.3 million, as reported by Western Journal.
It remains to be seen how much money “The Equalizer 3” will ultimately make in the coming weeks, but it certainly has a chance to reach its break-even point of $175 million.
