Coach Prime’s first home game sees Colorado dominate Nebraska.
Colorado Football Coach Deion Sanders Dominates Home Opener Against Nebraska
In a thrilling home opener at Folsom Field, Colorado head football coach Deion Sanders, also known as “Coach Prime,” lived up to his nickname. The No. 22 Colorado Buffaloes delivered a resounding victory over their arch rival, the Nebraska Cornhuskers, with a final score of 36-14.
The game took place in front of a sold-out stadium, marking the first time in years that Colorado played at home in such a packed venue. The matchup against Nebraska has been a century-old rivalry, often determining which team would compete for championships.
Ticket prices for this highly anticipated game averaged an impressive $476 per ticket, surpassing the average ticket price for the most expensive NFL game in week 1.
The game started off as a defensive battle, but the Nebraska Cornhuskers’ repeated turnovers proved to be their downfall. Colorado capitalized on their opponent’s mistakes, showcasing their superiority throughout the game.
Coach Sanders had instilled a personal motivation in his team, forbidding them from wearing Nebraska’s color, red, throughout the week leading up to the game.
“We didn’t just want to win, we wanted to dominate,” Sanders declared. “Although we weren’t dominant in the first half, we regrouped and truly imposed our will in the second half.”
Shedeur Sanders, Colorado’s quarterback and a Heisman Trophy contender, shared his perspective on the game’s significance.
“It was extremely personal,” the younger Sanders revealed. “When we went out to warm up, the head coach of the other team, Matt Rhule, tried to stand in the middle of the Buff. It’s one thing if a few players do it, but when the whole team disrespects it, I won’t stand for that. So, I went in there and disrupted it.”

“The Buff means a lot to me,” he added.
“It was extremely personal… The coach said a lot of things about my Pops, about the program- but now he wanna act nice. I don’t respect that.”
