GOP probes whistleblower’s allegation: CIA allegedly funded investigators to dismiss lab leak theory.
Republicans Investigate Allegations of CIA Manipulation in COVID Origins Investigation
Republicans in Congress are intensifying their efforts to uncover the truth behind the origins of the coronavirus. A high-ranking CIA officer has come forward with a shocking claim that the agency offered financial incentives to investigators to dismiss the lab leak theory. This revelation has sparked a wave of scrutiny and calls for accountability.
Whistleblower Exposes Manipulation within the CIA
The whistleblower, a respected and experienced CIA officer, has revealed that the majority of the COVID Discovery Team initially concluded that the virus originated in the Wuhan Institute of Virology. However, they allege that they were coerced into changing their stance to support the zoonotic origin hypothesis through the promise of monetary rewards. This raises serious concerns about the integrity of the investigation and the potential suppression of crucial evidence.
Leading the charge in this investigation are House Select Subcommittee on the Coronavirus Pandemic Chairman Brad Wenstrup (R-OH) and Intelligence Committee Chairman Mike Turner (R-OH). They have written letters to CIA Director Bill Burns and former CIA Chief Operating Officer Andrew Makridis, demanding answers and transparency.
The credibility of the whistleblower’s claims is bolstered by their status as a long-serving and high-ranking officer within the agency. The information they have provided is based on a seemingly reliable source, adding weight to the need for a thorough investigation.
In June, the Office of the Director of National Intelligence released a report stating that the precise origin of the COVID-19 pandemic remains unknown. However, it acknowledged that a lab-based incident was the most likely cause of the first human infection. This further underscores the importance of examining any potential manipulation within the CIA’s investigation.
Wenstrup and Turner are determined to get to the truth and have requested voluntary transcribed interviews with Burns and Makridis. They aim to conduct these interviews by September 26, ensuring a swift and comprehensive examination of the allegations.
Additionally, the committees are seeking all communications related to the COVID Discovery Team, including exchanges between the CIA, FBI, DOE, and other federal departments or agencies. They are also demanding documentation regarding any financial incentives or bonuses awarded to team members, shedding light on potential conflicts of interest.
The gravity of these allegations cannot be ignored. The American people deserve transparency and accountability in the search for the origins of the pandemic. The Washington Examiner has reached out to the Democratic members of the committees and the CIA for their comments on this matter.
