McCarthy has emphasized the urgency of passing the homeland security appropriations bill before ‌the⁣ September 30‍ deadline. According to a source familiar with the proceedings, this bill is one of three‍ that ‍the House is⁣ likely to address before the deadline.

The bill will ‍allocate $2.1 billion for ⁢the border wall, as outlined in the document,⁢ with a requirement to initiate contracts within 120 days. Additionally, it will provide $276 million for border technology and $305⁤ million ​for nonintrusive inspection. The⁣ bill will also allocate ⁤funding for a total​ of 22,000 Border Patrol agents and 98,000‌ Border Patrol air and marine flight hours.

Furthermore, the document highlights that⁣ the bill will restrict funding to various programs and entities that conservatives have⁢ vocally opposed. For ‌instance, it will withhold funding from nongovernmental organizations that offer migrant services, such as the Emergency Food ​and Shelter Program and the Shelter Services⁢ Program. Additionally, it will‍ prohibit the use of funds to dismantle existing barriers and transport illegal immigrants into the interior of the country.

The homeland security‍ appropriations bill also includes several policy provisions. According to the document, it⁢ will prohibit COVID-19 vaccine requirements for Department of Homeland Security personnel, prioritize ⁢the detention of illegal immigrants, mandate the public availability of Border⁤ Patrol and immigration data, and require ongoing monitoring throughout legal proceedings.

Border security remains a top priority for the Republican ⁢conference ‍as lawmakers negotiate appropriations bills. Some members have even⁣ threatened to vote against appropriations bills or a continuing resolution if ⁤the House Republican ‍Leadership fails to sufficiently address border security during the appropriations process.
