China denies banning foreign phone brands.
China Denies Ban on Foreign Phone Brands, Including Apple
In response to recent media reports suggesting a ban on the use of Apple iPhones by government agencies and firms, the Chinese foreign ministry clarified that China has not issued any laws or regulations prohibiting the purchase and use of foreign brand phones. Foreign ministry spokesperson Mao Ning emphasized that the Chinese government values information and cyber security and treats both domestic and foreign companies equally.
However, Mao acknowledged that there have been security incidents related to Apple’s phones, which have received significant media attention. The Chinese government places great importance on information security and expects all mobile phone companies, including Apple, to comply with its laws and regulations and strengthen information security management.
China’s focus on using locally-made tech products stems from the increasing significance of technology as a national security issue for both Beijing and Washington.
