China has constructed a new military force with the sole purpose of targeting US assets, says Air Force Secretary.
China’s Preparation for War Against the United States
According to Air Force Secretary Frank Kendall, China has been actively preparing for war against the United States for over two decades. In his keynote address at the Air and Space Force Association’s 2023 Air, Space, and Cyber Conference, Mr. Kendall revealed that China has been optimizing its forces to gain an advantage over the U.S. in the Western Pacific.
“China has been building a military capability specifically designed to achieve their national goals and to do so if opposed by the United States,”
Mr. Kendall highlighted that the Chinese Communist Party (CCP) has established two new military services: a “rocket force” aimed at attacking U.S. high-value assets, such as aircraft carriers and forward airfields, and “strategic support forces” focused on achieving information dominance in space and cyber domains.
Emphasizing the need for the United States to optimize its forces, Mr. Kendall stated that the country must be prepared for a type of war it has no modern experience with. He also stressed the importance of overcoming obstacles in Congress, such as confirming military nominations and passing a full-year budget, to prevent a government shutdown.
While Mr. Kendall acknowledged that war is not inevitable, he emphasized the necessity of deterring it and being ready to win if it occurs. He stated, “We’re all talking about the fact that the Air and Space Forces must change, or we could fail to prevent and might even lose a war.”
Challenges Posed by Authoritarian Nations
Adm. John Aquilino, head of the U.S. military’s Indo-Pacific Command, has also expressed concerns about the ongoing challenge posed by the CCP. He highlighted the alliance between China and Russia, as well as their support for destabilizing actions by countries like North Korea and Iran.
Mr. Aquilino emphasized the importance of competition rather than complacency in deterring conflicts in the coming years. He stated that his command is prepared for any contingency in the Indo-Pacific but criticized communist Chinese forces for their refusal to communicate with the U.S. military.
It is evident that China’s preparations for war and its alliance with Russia present significant challenges to the United States and the rest of the world. Vigilance, strategic optimization, and effective communication are crucial in maintaining peace and security.
