House Speaker Kevin McCarthy Clashes with CNN Reporter Over Biden Impeachment Inquiry
House Speaker Kevin McCarthy and a CNN reporter engaged in a heated exchange on Wednesday regarding McCarthy’s decision to unilaterally launch an impeachment inquiry into President Joe Biden.
McCarthy announced on Tuesday that such an inquiry is the “logical” step after House Republicans uncovered evidence of Biden and his family allegedly cashing in on his influence as vice president from 2009 to 2017.
“These are allegations of abuse of power, obstruction, and corruption,” McCarthy told reporters. “They warrant further investigation by the House of Representatives.”

McCarthy faced blowback as he previously stated that he would not move to impeach Biden without a floor vote on the matter. However, no vote was taken, which seemed to upset CNN’s Manu Raju.

McCarthy pointed out that in 2019, then-House Speaker Nancy Pelosi unilaterally launched an impeachment probe into then-President Donald Trump without taking a vote. McCarthy questioned why the precedent set by Pelosi was acceptable for Democrats but not for Republicans.
During the exchange, McCarthy challenged Raju to investigate allegations of corruption himself, emphasizing that reporting the truth should be Raju’s priority.
The Western Journal could not find any instances of CNN reporters attempting to grill Pelosi for her actions in launching an impeachment probe into Trump in 2019. McCarthy had previously criticized Pelosi’s actions on social media.

Two weeks ago, McCarthy emphasized that opening an impeachment inquiry is a serious matter and should not be used for political purposes. He stated that if an impeachment inquiry were to proceed, it should occur through a vote on the floor of the House, allowing the American people to be heard through their elected representatives.
