‘Antiracist’ Professor Suffers from Layoffs, Research Center Shrinking to Nothing
Center for Antiracist Research Faces Layoffs Amid Allegations of Mismanagement
It seems that the saying “get woke, go broke” holds true for Ibram X. Kendi and his “Center for Antiracist Research.” The Boston University-based center, which was launched just three years ago, has had to lay off almost half of its staff due to allegations of financial mismanagement and employment abuse.
According to Fox News, the center recently let go of 15 to 20 staff members, leaving only a fraction of its original workforce. This comes as a surprise considering that the center had about 45 employees as of July.
While the university confirmed the layoffs, they stated that the center is transitioning to a fellowship model and that Kendi will remain as the director.
It’s worth noting that just three years ago, Kendi received a $10 million donation from Twitter founder Jack Dorsey to support his “antiracist” work. However, it seems that the money has not been put to good use.
Thanks @jack and #startsmall for supporting the @AntiracismCtr at @bu_tweets.
Your $10M donation, with no strings attached, gives us the resources and flexibility to greatly expand our antiracist work. The endowment is vital, as we build our new Center. 1/https://t.co/BcVPgwCjuF— Ibram X. Kendi (@ibramxk) August 20, 2020
Kendi, a vocal supporter of Black Lives Matter, has been a strong advocate for critical race theory, which has been widely criticized for its divisive and patronizing approach. The Center for Antiracist Research was launched in the midst of the BLM riots in 2020.
Interestingly, Kendi, known for his anti-white and anti-capitalist rhetoric, is now facing backlash from his own staff members. According to The Boston Globe, current and former employees have criticized Kendi’s management and questioned how a well-funded department could be in a position to lay off staff.
One former employee, Saida Grundy, spoke out about the exploitative working conditions at the center. She mentioned the lack of structure and unreasonable hours for inadequate pay. Other faculty members reportedly had similar experiences.
As news of the layoffs spread, social media users were quick to mock Kendi and his failed project.

Christopher Rufo, a bestselling author and critic of critical race theory, also chimed in, calling Kendi’s center a “race-hustling grift.” He highlighted the lack of research produced by the center and the public criticism from laid-off employees.
Ibram Kendi’s “antiracism” center is collapsing. He hired a bunch of left-wing academics that produced almost no research, but complained that he was “exploitative” and forced them to work too hard. Now he’s laid off nearly half of the employees and they’re trashing him publicly. pic.twitter.com/6DhKXnkjLz

It seems that Kendi’s race-baiting program, much like Black Lives Matter, is facing its own downfall. The demand for ”anti-black racism” appears to be exaggerated, and the financial mismanagement of such organizations is becoming increasingly evident.
With questions surrounding the use of the $10 million donation and other funds received by the center, a thorough investigation is warranted.

What steps can the center take to rebuild trust and credibility after the significant layoffs and allegations of financial mismanagement?
D management. Many questioned the effectiveness and integrity of the center, considering the significant donation it received just a few years ago.
The allegations of mismanagement and employment abuse have raised important questions about the transparency and accountability of the Center for Antiracist Research. If true, these allegations are deeply concerning, as they demonstrate a disregard for the well-being of staff members and a lack of responsible financial management.
Moreover, the layoffs themselves are indicative of larger issues within the center. How could an organization with such substantial funding and support from prominent figures find itself in a position where it has to lay off staff? This raises doubts about the effectiveness and impact of the center’s work, as well as its ability to fulfill its mission.
Additionally, the allegations against Kendi and the center highlight the potential dangers of promoting a divisive and patronizing approach to social issues. Critical race theory, which Kendi is a vocal supporter of, has been criticized for its divisive nature and its tendency to perpetuate racial tensions rather than address them constructively. These allegations suggest that the center’s approach may not be conducive to creating meaningful change, both within the organization and in wider society.
The criticism from current and former staff members adds another layer of concern to this situation. When employees start speaking out about exploitative working conditions, it raises important questions about the ethical practices and values of the organization. If the allegations are true, it indicates a failure on the part of the center’s leadership to prioritize the well-being and fair treatment of its employees.
In light of these allegations and layoffs, it is crucial that there be a thorough investigation into the management of the Center for Antiracist Research. Transparency and accountability are essential in maintaining the trust and credibility of any organization, particularly one that claims to be at the forefront of promoting antiracism.
Ultimately, the layoffs at the Center for Antiracist Research and the allegations of mismanagement serve as a reminder that no organization or individual is immune to scrutiny. It is a call for all those who are committed to addressing systemic racism to reflect on the importance of responsible leadership, ethical practices, and a genuine commitment to creating meaningful change.
