The recovery fund’s donation page is hosted on ActBlue, a Democratic fundraising site. The page description acknowledges that contributions will support ”leaders and organizations.”
“The Maui Community Power Recovery Fund aims to assist leaders and organizations that have been actively addressing the underlying causes of the Maui Fires’ devastation for years. We will continue supporting them even after the media attention fades,” states the ActBlue donation page. According to Civil Beat, the fund has already raised over $648,000.
On the donation page, Our Hawaii Action asserts that the fires were exacerbated by years of climate change and poor land and water management decisions that originated during colonization and persist to this day.
Our Hawaii Action is no stranger to left-wing political activism. In a previous campaign, the super PAC raised substantial funds in an unsuccessful bid to unseat moderate Rep. Ed Case (D., Hawaii).
