NASA is tracking asteroid with potential Earth impact.
NASA Monitors Asteroid Bennu as It Prepares to Unveil Biggest Sample Yet
Just days before NASA unveils the biggest sample yet from an asteroid, the agency said it is closely monitoring that very asteroid because there is a small chance it could “impact” Earth in the 22nd century.
Bennu, a fascinating asteroid the width of the Empire State Building, will make a close flyby of Earth on September 25, 2135. NASA acknowledges that the Earth’s gravitational pull could alter Bennu’s path, making it difficult to predict its future trajectory. However, there is an extremely small chance – 0.037% – that Bennu could pass through a gravitational keyhole, potentially leading to an impact on Earth on September 24, 2182.
Unveiling the Secrets of Bennu
Scientists believe that Bennu holds remnants from the formation of our solar system billions of years ago. This fascination with the asteroid prompted NASA to launch a $1 billion mission in 2016 to collect a sample. After years of careful planning and execution, the spacecraft is finally returning home on Sunday, bringing with it the long-awaited results.
“I ask myself how many heart-pounding moments can you have in one lifetime because I feel like I might be hitting my limit,” said Dante Lauretta, the mission’s lead investigator.
Join the Return Mission Virtually
The return mission from the OSIRIS-REx team will arrive at the Department of Defense’s Utah Test and Training Range. Excitingly, the public can even register to attend the return virtually and witness this historic event.
Stay tuned for more updates on Bennu and NASA’s groundbreaking mission!
What techniques are commonly used in AI to simulate human intelligence?
Artificial intelligence, often abbreviated as AI, refers to the field of computer science that involves the creation of intelligent machines that can perform tasks that would typically require human intelligence. These machines are designed to mimic human behavior and cognitive abilities, such as learning, problem-solving, and decision-making.
AI can be broadly categorized into two types: narrow AI and general AI. Narrow AI, also known as weak AI, is designed to perform a specific task or set of tasks within a limited domain. Examples of narrow AI include virtual personal assistants like Siri and Alexa, image recognition systems, and recommendation algorithms used by online platforms.
On the other hand, general AI, also known as strong AI, refers to AI systems that have the ability to understand, learn, and apply knowledge across a wide range of tasks, similar to human intelligence. General AI remains largely theoretical and is yet to be achieved.
AI utilizes various techniques and approaches to enable machines to simulate human intelligence. Some common techniques used in AI include machine learning, natural language processing, computer vision, and neural networks. These techniques allow machines to analyze large amounts of data, learn from patterns, make predictions, and improve their performance over time.
The applications of AI are vast and continuously expanding. AI is used in a variety of industries such as healthcare, finance, education, manufacturing, and transportation. It is employed in tasks such as data analysis, speech and image recognition, autonomous vehicles, and virtual assistants.
While AI has the potential to revolutionize many aspects of human life and improve efficiency and convenience, it also raises ethical concerns. These concerns include issues related to privacy, data security, job displacement, and bias in AI algorithms.
In summary, artificial intelligence involves the creation of intelligent machines that can perform tasks requiring human intelligence. It encompasses a wide range of techniques and applications, and its development has vast implications for various industries and society as a whole.
