San Diego Man to Receive Carnegie Medal for Heroic Rescue

according to a statement from the Carnegie Hero Fund Commission. Undeterred, Mr. Badet then returned to the woman and attempted the same rescue technique. However, she became panicked and refused to let go of the surfboard, making it difficult for her to escape the water.
“Despite the crashing waves, Mr. Badet made two more valiant attempts to bring the woman to safety. When his efforts proved unsuccessful, he positioned himself in the center of the cove and awaited assistance,”
the commission statement explained. Lifeguards soon arrived, bravely entered the water, and successfully rescued the woman. Meanwhile, Mr. Badet paddled about 50 feet to a safe exit point.
Mayor Todd Gloria took to Twitter to commend Mr. Badet for his heroic actions, stating:
