Teenager Arrested for Assault and Car Theft in Vista
In a shocking incident that unfolded over the weekend in Vista, a 15-year-old boy has been taken into custody on suspicion of assaulting a motorist and stealing her car. The incident occurred at the intersection of Civic Center Drive and Phillips Street, just north of state Route 78.
According to the San Diego County Sheriff’s Department, a 911 caller reported the incident shortly before 10:30 p.m. on September 24. The caller stated that a woman had been stabbed in the chest and forcibly removed from the driver’s seat of her vehicle.
The victim was quickly transported to Palomar Medical Center for treatment of her non-life-threatening injuries. Lt. Darrell McNeal confirmed the victim’s condition.
Following the incident, deputies immediately launched a search for the stolen car. They spotted the vehicle traveling along East Vista Way and attempted to initiate a traffic stop. However, the suspect refused to yield and led the deputies on a brief pursuit.
The pursuit came to a dramatic end when the suspect lost control of the stolen car on eastbound SR-76, causing it to crash into a median. Lt. McNeal provided this information.
Without wasting a moment, the suspect jumped out of the car and made a desperate attempt to escape on foot. However, his efforts were in vain as law enforcement quickly apprehended him.
The identity of the 15-year-old suspect has been withheld due to his status as a minor. He has been booked into juvenile hall on charges of carjacking, felony evasion of police, and attempted murder.
