Prosecutor faces charges for road rage stabbing.
A Former Federal Prosecutor Faces Violent Charges
A former federal prosecutor who was involved in the Capitol riot on Jan. 6, 2021, is now facing charges of his own.
According to the Tampa Bay Times, 38-year-old Patrick Douglas Scruggs was arrested and charged with aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and armed burglary after a road rage incident. Scruggs, who worked in the U.S. Attorney’s Office, allegedly pulled over and stabbed a 35-year-old man during the morning rush hour.
The incident began when a couple stopped to check on a man slumped over the steering wheel. As they returned to their vehicle to get something to break the car window, the slumped-over man suddenly started the car and rammed into the couple’s vehicle. When the man put the car in reverse, it hit Scruggs’ vehicle, leading to the violent confrontation.
The injured driver was taken to the hospital with serious but non-life-threatening injuries. Scruggs was released on bail after posting $65,000.
Scruggs, who now works for a law firm, previously prosecuted Adam Johnson, the man who infamously carried Speaker Nancy Pelosi’s lectern during the Capitol riot. Johnson was sentenced to 75 days in prison and ordered to pay a fine and complete community service.

Ed another driver multiple times during the altercation.
The incident occurred on January 27, 2021, in Tampa, Florida, when Scruggs and the victim were involved in a confrontation on the road. The disagreement escalated, leading to Scruggs stopping his vehicle and attacking the other driver with a knife. The victim sustained multiple stab wounds and was rushed to a nearby hospital for medical treatment.
This incident comes just weeks after Scruggs faced widespread criticism for his participation in the Capitol riot. Images and videos circulated on social media allegedly showed Scruggs inside the Capitol building during the siege. The former prosecutor was later terminated from his position in the U.S. Attorney’s Office due to his involvement in the attack.
Scruggs’ arrest and the subsequent charges further highlight the concerning behavior displayed by some individuals during the Capitol riot. While the majority of the rioters have been identified as supporters of former President Donald Trump, it is crucial to emphasize that acts of violence and destruction are not representative of the entire Trump supporter community.
Law enforcement agencies have been actively investigating and prosecuting individuals involved in the Capitol riot, aiming to hold them accountable for their actions. Scruggs now faces additional charges unrelated to the insurrection, reinforcing the importance of addressing each individual case separately and in accordance with the law.
The consequences for Scruggs’ actions, if he is found guilty, would be severe. Aggravated battery, aggravated assault, and armed burglary are serious offenses that carry significant penalties, including imprisonment and fines. Scruggs will have to navigate the legal process and face potential criminal punishment for his alleged crimes.
It is essential to recognize that individuals in positions of authority, such as federal prosecutors, are not exempt from the law. Their actions, especially those involving violence, can have far-reaching consequences and undermine public trust in the justice system. This incident serves as a reminder that integrity and adherence to the law should be of utmost importance for those who hold positions of power.
As this case proceeds, it will be critical for the justice system to ensure a fair and impartial trial. Scruggs, like any other individual accused of a crime, deserves his day in court, where the evidence can be presented and evaluated. Only through a thorough and transparent legal process can justice be properly served.
Overall, the case of former federal prosecutor Patrick Douglas Scruggs facing charges in connection with a road rage incident demonstrates the importance of accountability and upholding the principles of justice. The legal system must operate without bias, treating every case with the same level of scrutiny and impartiality. Regardless of one’s occupation or affiliations, everyone should be held accountable for their actions, and justice should be administered accordingly.
