MOUNT LAUREL, N.J.—Man Who Attacked Parents and Escaped Halfway House Remains Missing
A man who served a prison sentence for brutally attacking and seriously injuring his parents over twenty years ago is currently on the run. Edward Berbon, 54, failed to return to the halfway house where he was residing, sparking a search for his whereabouts.
Berbon had been assigned to a halfway house in Camden County and had been working in Mount Laurel since March. However, on Saturday, he failed to return to the facility and is now considered an escapee.
Authorities have assured the public that there is no immediate threat to the community from Berbon.
Edward Berbon has a history of criminal offenses, including theft and robbery. In July 2004, just hours after being released from prison, he viciously attacked his parents at their home in Hamilton Township, Mercer County. The motive behind these attacks remains unknown.
Fortunately, both of Berbon’s parents survived the ordeal.
During the attempted murder case, Berbon was represented by a public defender. The state’s public defender’s office declined to comment on his case, citing their policy of not discussing clients’ legal issues.
