Watchdog: Dems Paid Foreign National Illegally for Campaign Tasks
A Democratic Congressman and Major Campaign Committee Violate Election Law, Paying Foreign National for Campaign Work
A Democratic congressman and a prominent Democratic campaign committee have come under fire for allegedly violating federal election law by paying a firm run by a foreign national over $700,000 for campaign services. The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT) has filed a watchdog complaint, highlighting the blatant disregard for the law.
“Foreign nationals are barred from contributing in any substantive way, both financially or strategically, and given the facts here this is precisely what appears to have happened — repeatedly,” said Kendra Arnold, the watchdog group’s executive director. “The monetary political donations made by Mr. Valdovinos would be egregious violations in and of themselves, and the fact he literally created a political consulting firm with a significant client list and billings is truly beyond the pale.”
The complaint, exclusively obtained by The Daily Wire, reveals substantial payments made to the firm, La Machine, owned by Antonio Valdovinos, a foreign national living in the United States under the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) program. The firm received $710,000 from the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee for “voter canvassing” and an additional $211,587.66 from the campaign committee of Rep. Ruben Gallego (D-AZ) for various services.
Furthermore, Valdovinos made multiple illegal political donations to federal candidates, as disclosed in campaign finance reports. The complaint has been submitted to the Federal Election Commission (FEC) for investigation.
Violation of Election Law and Immigration Status
Valdovinos’ actions are in direct violation of federal election law, which prohibits foreign nationals from participating in U.S. political campaigns. Despite his immigration status being well-known, Valdovinos has continued to engage in political activities, even being invited as a guest to the 2018 State of the Union address by Rep. Gallego.
Valdovinos’ involvement in political work extends beyond his firm, as he was also a producer for an off-Broadway musical called ¡Americano! Because We’re All Dreamers, which highlights his political activism. However, recent court rulings have declared the DACA program illegal, and the FEC has previously ruled that DACA recipients are considered foreign nationals and are therefore prohibited from engaging in political activities.
FEC Commissioner Ellen Weintraub emphasized the importance of upholding the law, stating, “It is illegal for any person to solicit, accept, or receive anything of value from a foreign national in connection with a U.S. election.”
Neither Valdovinos, Rep. Gallego, nor the Democratic Senatorial Campaign Committee have responded to requests for comment on the matter.
It remains to be seen how this violation of election law will be addressed and what consequences may follow for those involved.
What actions has the Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust taken in response to the alleged violations committed by the Democratic congressman and the campaign committee?
A Media, Total Marketing, for various campaign services such as digital advertising, graphic design, media production, and consulting. The firm is owned and operated by Esteban Valdovinos, a Mexican national.
According to Federal Election Commission (FEC) rules, foreign nationals are prohibited from making contributions or expenditures in connection with any election in the United States. This includes both financial contributions and any form of strategic involvement in a political campaign. The purpose of this regulation is to ensure fair and transparent elections, free from foreign influence.
The complaint alleges that the Democratic congressman and the campaign committee paid over $700,000 to La Macha Media for its services, resulting in substantial financial support and influence from a foreign national. This raises serious concerns about the integrity of the democratic process and the potential for foreign interference in American elections.
The Foundation for Accountability and Civic Trust (FACT), a non-profit watchdog organization, has taken swift action in response to these alleged violations. Kendra Arnold, executive director of FACT, stated that the monetary political donations made by Mr. Valdovinos would already be considered egregious violations on their own. However, the fact that he also established a political consulting firm with significant clients and billings is truly beyond the pale.
The involvement of a foreign national in such a prominent and influential position within a political campaign is deeply troubling. It raises questions about the campaign’s commitment to uphold election laws and adherence to principles of democracy. The reported payments made to La Macha Media highlight a disregard for the law and a willingness to exploit loopholes for personal gain.
It is crucial that these alleged violations are thoroughly investigated and that appropriate actions are taken to hold those responsible accountable. The integrity of our democratic system depends on fair and transparent elections free from foreign interference. Any violations of election law must be taken seriously and addressed with the utmost urgency.
This case serves as a stark reminder of the importance of campaign finance regulations and the need for strict enforcement to maintain the integrity of our democratic process. The potential consequences of allowing foreign nationals to have a substantial influence on election campaigns are significant and pose a threat to our democracy.
The Democratic congressman and the prominent campaign committee must be held accountable for their alleged violations of election law. It is essential that authorities thoroughly investigate the matter, determine the extent of the wrongdoing, and take appropriate legal action. Only by addressing these issues promptly and decisively can we protect the integrity of our elections and ensure that the voice of the American people is not compromised by foreign interference.
