On Friday, 31-year-old John Wonder was ‌arrested after his wife was found⁣ dead with his last name written on her leg in blood and texts show him ‌describing the murder as “satisfying” and “easy”.

The father of two faces first degree murder charges after allegedly stabbing and strangling his wife, 29-year-old Ashli Ehrhardt, inside their home on September‍ 22nd.

According to a⁤ probable ⁣cause statement, the couple was in the midst⁣ of a divorce battle and the‍ victim was planning to move out in a few days.

Text messages sent by the suspect moments after⁣ the stabbing reveal his ‌disturbing mindset. In one message to his sister, he wrote, “It’s way easier and⁣ much more satisfying than you can imagine. ‍See ‌you around.”

“Hey kiddo. Sorry ‌about the mess,” Wonder allegedly wrote. “It’s way easier and much more ⁤satisfying than you can imagine. ⁣See you around.”

Reports state ‍that both Wonder and⁢ his‍ wife worked at ‌the same company. When they didn’t show up for work, their supervisor requested a welfare check.

Ehrhardt’s parents went to the couple’s ‌residence with responding officers‌ and Wonder’s mother. According to ‌the statement, Ehrhardt’s mother informed the officers that Wonder had dropped off ⁤their two children at her‍ home⁤ but left them on the front porch instead of bringing them inside, as⁣ he usually did.

While police stood outside, Ehrhardt’s father ‍discovered‍ her dead in the downstairs laundry room. She was naked from‌ the waist down,‌ with ⁢a belt wrapped around her neck, and had multiple puncture wounds on her left side. The word “Wonder” was scrawled in⁣ blood on her leg, and a large butcher knife was found next to her body.

Wonder’s ⁢sister provided⁤ police ⁤with screenshots of a text conversation in which he ⁤described the murder as easy and satisfying. Another acquaintance also shared a troubling message indicating that Wonder was traveling north to Fargo.

“Still haven’t cried. Still feel nothing. No more anxiety, though. ⁢That’s a plus,” he allegedly texted. “I’m in the⁤ car. I have no doubt I will be caught today. I keep thinking about how⁢ she⁤ never screamed. Just took ⁤it like a⁢ champ. What a gal,⁣ to honor her. I will not go out by ⁤a gunshot (suicide by cop) but by, hopefully a similar fate ⁣as Ashli.”

According to Wonder’s mother, the couple had been married since October 2019 but decided to split⁣ after meeting with⁢ a marriage counselor last year.‌ Ehrhardt planned to leave ‍on October 1st.

Wonder‌ was detained by Nebraska state police while traveling westbound and is now facing charges of first-degree murder and armed ⁢criminal conduct. He is currently held on a ⁢$1 ⁢million bond.
