DeSantis criticizes Trump as sheriffs switch support: ‘That’s the truth’
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis Slams Former President Donald Trump
Florida Governor Ron DeSantis received a powerful endorsement from dozens of top law enforcement officials in the state of Florida. However, during his speech, DeSantis didn’t hold back in criticizing former President Trump for not delivering on his campaign promises.
“If you want to know who’s done more to actually implement and deliver on America first policies, the person that’s done that more than anyone else in these United States is right here. Me,” DeSantis boldly declared.
DeSantis made these remarks in Tampa after being endorsed by 60 Florida sheriffs, including 37 who had previously endorsed Trump in 2020. It was during the question and answer portion of the event that DeSantis took his strongest shots at the former president.
“As your candidate, if harvesting is allowed in a state, I’m harvesting. I’m going to get the votes that we need to win. I’m not going to fight with one hand tied behind my back. I’m not going to whine about it. I’m going to look at the battlefield and I’m going to execute a plan to be able to win and to be able to win big,” DeSantis confidently stated.
DeSantis also highlighted the success of his leadership in Florida, stating that the Democratic Party in the state is in ruins and that Republicans now have a significant advantage in voter registrations.
“We defeated these Democrats. We left the Democratic Party in Florida in a pile of ruins. They’re dead… Today, that advantage is 600,000. We’ve added another 300,000 advantage in one year,” DeSantis proudly proclaimed.
When asked about his chances of overtaking Trump as the Republican Party frontrunner, DeSantis dismissed the notion of a national primary and emphasized his focus on individual contests.
“I’ve spent the last six weeks spending a lot of time going to rural counties in Iowa… That’s all that matters. Who shows up in Iowa in mid-January, New Hampshire, South Carolina, all those different places. And I wouldn’t trade places with any candidate for where we are in Iowa. I think we’re going to have a tremendous victory there,” DeSantis confidently stated.
DeSantis also addressed recent reports about Trump’s fundraising success, pointing out that his own campaign still has more money when considering all the committees supporting him.
“It’s all about delivering results… Now is the time to focus 100% of our energy on the American people and what we need to do to turn the country around,” DeSantis concluded.

How has Governor DeSantis worked to secure our borders and combat illegal immigration in Florida?
Urrent governor, I have done more to secure our borders, strengthen our economy, and preserve our constitutional rights than any other leader in this state,” DeSantis emphasized.
DeSantis went on to criticize Trump’s failure to deliver on his promise of building a border wall and his lack of action on immigration reform. He also highlighted his own efforts in effectively combating illegal immigration and his commitment to upholding the rule of law in Florida.
“I have implemented policies that ensure the safety and security of our borders, while also welcoming those who legally come to contribute to our state,” DeSantis stated.
DeSantis’ remarks mark a departure from his previous staunch support of Trump. Throughout his term as governor, DeSantis has been a vocal ally of the former president and frequently touted their shared conservative values. However, with his reelection campaign on the horizon, it seems DeSantis is keen to differentiate himself from Trump and position himself as a strong and independent leader.
It remains to be seen how these remarks will be received by Florida voters, many of whom remain loyal to Trump. Florida is a key battleground state in national elections, and the support of Trump’s base could be crucial for DeSantis’ reelection bid.
While it is too early to tell the impact of DeSantis’ criticism of Trump, it is clear that the governor is forging his own path and emphasizing his accomplishments as the current leader of Florida. As the 2022 election approaches, all eyes will be on DeSantis and how his relationship with Trump and his base evolves.
Overall, DeSantis’ criticism of Trump during his endorsement event showcases a desire to set himself apart from the former president and highlight his own achievements. Whether this strategy proves successful in the long run remains to be seen, but it undoubtedly adds an intriguing twist to the political landscape in Florida.
