16 migrants dead, 29 injured in Mexico bus crash.

A tragic accident occurred when a bus carrying migrants from Venezuela and Haiti crashed, resulting in the loss of at least 16 lives and leaving 29 others injured.
The National Immigration Institute of Mexico reported on Friday that 16 migrants, including three children, lost their lives in the accident, while 29 others sustained injuries.
Initially, the institute had reported 18 deaths, but upon further investigation, it was discovered that the count was inaccurate due to dismembered remains. The true death toll was confirmed to be 16.
Disturbing images shared on social media depict the bus overturned on its side along a curved section of the highway.
The institute also revealed that approximately 55 migrants, mostly from Venezuela, were on board the ill-fated bus.
This tragic incident follows another deadly accident last week, where 10 Cuban migrants lost their lives and 17 others were injured after a freight truck they were traveling in crashed near the Guatemala border.
According to the Institute, the driver of the truck, which was carrying 27 migrants at the time, was speeding and lost control. The driver fled the scene.
Mexican authorities typically prohibit migrants without legal documentation from purchasing regular bus tickets, leading them to resort to unsafe alternatives such as poorly-driven trucks or hitchhiking on passing vehicles.
Salomón Jara Cruz, the governor of Oaxaca, expressed his condolences and pledged support to the victims and their families in a Spanish-language post.
“We deeply regret the fatal accident that occurred on the Oaxaca-Cuacnopalan highway, in which several migrants died,” he said. “Our condolences to the families of the deceased and all our solidarity and support to the injured.”
