Okeechobee High School Shooting Plot Foiled, 19-Year-Old Arrested

A chilling discovery in Florida has led to the arrest of a 19-year-old who had detailed plans to carry out a mass shooting at Okeechobee High School.
Henry Joseph Horton IV was apprehended by police after they pulled him over for a routine traffic violation. However, upon searching his vehicle, officers discovered disturbing handwritten notes outlining his intentions to “kill everyone at OHS [Okeechobee High School] with [his] guns.”
According to authorities, Horton had graduated from the school just a few months prior. When questioned about his motive, he shockingly revealed that he sought attention and fame through this heinous act.
The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office revealed that Horton had identified specific targets, including a school administrator and 14 other individuals. His planned attack was scheduled for January 2, 2026.
Even more alarming, Horton’s written plans also revealed his desire to carry out a separate stabbing spree at a Miami church, targeting an additional 10 people.
Before being taken into custody, Horton underwent a mental health evaluation at JFK North Hospital. His parents, while acknowledging his severe mental health issues, pleaded for him to receive treatment rather than be treated solely as a criminal.
“He needs to be treated for mental illness and not be treated as a criminal,” the suspect’s mother, Marcie Horton, said. “He needs a firm diagnosis to find out what the problem is and go from there and get him the help that he so desperately is asking for.”
Horton’s father also disclosed that his son had previously expressed similar disturbing thoughts, struggling to control them.
“He just said he has these thoughts, and he doesn’t know how to control them,” he said. “They just keep coming into his head.”
The suspect is currently being held on a $1 million bond and is scheduled to appear in court on November 6th.
