Jordan’s firm stance: Top speaker contender refuses to yield to Biden.
If Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) becomes the next speaker of the House, he won’t back down on border security when negotiating with President Joe Biden.
“No money can be used to process or release into the country any new migrants,” he said in an interview with Punchbowl News. “You got 11,000 [migrants] a day coming across the border. … Time out.”
Jordan, the frontrunner in the speaker race against Majority Leader Steve Scalise (R-LA), is determined to take bold action to address the southern border crisis.
He even plans to threaten a 1% spending cut across the board to pressure the Biden administration into decisive action.
House Republicans are currently in the process of electing a new speaker after Rep. Matt Gaetz (R-FL) led a historic motion to remove former Speaker Kevin McCarthy (R-CA) from his role. In a surprising turn of events, eight Republicans sided with House Democrats against McCarthy, leading to his ouster. Both Jordan and Scalise have since announced their bids for the role.
Border security has been a top priority for Republicans in the 118th Congress, with some even risking a government shutdown to push for its inclusion in a continuing resolution. Although it was ultimately left out of the bill, Republicans are still determined to pass legislation addressing the issue while they hold the majority.
If Jordan, a member of the conservative House Freedom Caucus, becomes speaker, he is expected to take the lead in tackling security concerns at the southern border.
Some hard-line conservative defectors cited inaction on the southern border as a reason for McCarthy’s removal from the speakership. Rep. Matt Rosendale (R-MT) emphasized the urgency, stating, “Our border is facing an unprecedented invasion. The House of Representatives and the American people deserve a leader who can challenge the status quo and put an end to this ruin.”

How does Rep. Jim Jordan’s stance on border security align with his potential role as House Speaker?
If Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) becomes the next speaker of the House, he won’t back down on border security when negotiating. The topic of border security has been a contentious issue in recent years, with political parties divided on how to address the challenges at the border. Rep. Jim Jordan has consistently expressed strong support for strengthening border security measures, and should he take on the role of House Speaker, it is highly unlikely that he would waiver on this stance.
Border security has always been a significant concern for the United States, but recent events have highlighted the urgency of the issue. The influx of illegal immigrants, drugs, and contraband into the country has reached alarming levels. This not only poses a threat to national security but also has adverse effects on the economy and social fabric of the nation. It is crucial to address this issue comprehensively and decisively.
Throughout his political career, Rep. Jim Jordan has been a vocal advocate for stricter border security measures. He firmly believes that a secure border is vital to safeguarding the nation’s interests and protecting American citizens. His unwavering commitment to this cause has earned him respect among his Republican colleagues and supporters who share his concerns.
When negotiating on border security, Rep. Jordan would bring a strong and resolute approach to the table. He understands that tough decisions and concerted actions are necessary to address the border crisis effectively. While some politicians may be inclined to compromise or backtrack on border security to appease certain constituencies or interest groups, Rep. Jordan’s track record suggests that he is unlikely to succumb to such pressures. He has consistently prioritized the security and well-being of American citizens above political expediency.
Rep. Jordan has been particularly critical of the Biden administration’s handling of border security. He has been quick to point out the shortcomings and failures in the government’s approach, demanding greater accountability and action. As House Speaker, Rep. Jordan would have a platform to advocate for and implement strong border security measures that uphold the rule of law and protect national interests.
However, it is essential to note that border security negotiations are complex and require bipartisan cooperation. Finding common ground may be challenging, as different political ideologies and priorities often clash. In such instances, Rep. Jordan’s unwavering commitment to border security may face opposition from those who prioritize different aspects of immigration reform, such as providing a path to citizenship for undocumented immigrants or fostering humanitarian policies.
Nevertheless, Rep. Jordan has consistently proven his ability to articulate his position effectively and passionately, bridging partisan gaps in discussions. His strong leadership skills, coupled with his deep understanding of the intricacies of border security, would likely enable him to navigate these negotiations with determination and resilience.
The role of House Speaker carries enormous responsibility, and the decision to elect Rep. Jim Jordan would undoubtedly have significant implications for the future of border security. As the nation grapples with the challenges at its borders, having a strong, unwavering advocate like Rep. Jordan could potentially bring about tangible changes and reforms that address the issue comprehensively and effectively. The selection of the next speaker of the House should be approached with careful consideration, taking into account the candidate’s track record, vision, and ability to lead on critical issues such as border security.
