Breaking News: Two Los Angeles County sheriff’s deputies rushed to hospital after fire erupts during training session near Los Angeles
Earlier reports indicated four injured deputies, but city officials clarified that only two were involved.
Deputy David Yoo, spokesperson for the sheriff’s office, stated that details about the severity of the injuries are still unknown.
Nicole Nishida, department spokeswoman, confirmed that investigations are ongoing to determine the cause of the incident at the training facility.
“We’re still trying to determine that. We know for sure there was a fire,” she said.
Firefighters were captured on camera extinguishing a blazing truck trailer from a KTLA chopper above the area.
Fred Fielding, spokesperson for the Los Angeles County Fire Department, reported that firefighters were called to the law enforcement training center, located near a county jail, at approximately 9:41 a.m.
The injured deputies had already been transported to the hospital by the time firefighters arrived, which was around 11 minutes after the fire started.
“We need to know why it happened and get to the bottom of it so we can prevent it from happening again,” said Sheriff Robert Luna during a news conference at the Henry Mayo Newhall Hospital.
The identities of the deputies have not been disclosed to the press. One deputy has served for 21 years, while the other has served for 17 years, according to Luna.
Castaic, located approximately 35 miles northwest of Los Angeles, is the site of the incident.
