Tom Hanks’ son claims his dad arranged his “kidnapping” at 17.
Chet Hanks Recalls Being “Kidnapped” from His Own Bed at 17
Chet Hanks, the son of Hollywood icons Tom Hanks and Rita Wilson, recently shared a shocking story about his teenage years. In a candid interview on “The Adam Friedland Show,” Chet recounted the surreal experience of waking up to find “two big a** dudes” standing at the foot of his bed.
“The lights go on, it’s 4:00 in the morning, they’re just standing at the foot of my bed.”
“And they were like ‘You’re coming with us,'” he stated.
It turns out that Chet’s parents had hired these men to take him away due to his struggles with drugs and alcohol. Concerned for his well-being, they sent him to a program designed to help young people in similar situations.
When asked if his parents witnessed the “kidnapping,” Chet revealed that they were the ones who orchestrated it. “They were, like, ‘Your parents hired us to take you,'” he said.
Before being sent away, Chet’s parents grounded him for the rest of high school and warned him that his life would change if he didn’t straighten up. But he didn’t take their warnings seriously until he found himself blindfolded in the desert, part of the program he was enrolled in.
During the interview, Chet also discussed the impact this experience had on his relationship with his parents. Despite the unconventional circumstances, he emphasized that he is close with them.
Chet mentioned that during the early 2000s to 2010, it was not uncommon for troubled teenagers to be sent to camps like the one he attended. However, due to lawsuits and whistleblowers exposing the practices of these programs, the practice eventually came to an end.
Chet had previously talked about this experience on another podcast, where he suggested that his parents were being manipulated by the camp, which was paid per day he stayed there. He compared his parents to “whales” who had the financial means to keep him in the program for an extended period.
While at the camp, Chet had to endure manual labor and help dismantle miles of barbed-wire fencing. He spent around four months in the program before being transferred to another one for over a year.
Despite the challenges he faced, Chet expressed gratitude for the experience, as it helped him turn his life around. He acknowledged that his parents’ actions came from a place of love and concern.
